I'm curious about these black dots also. Just got a 2006 GMC pickup, it has the dots on both sides of the rearview. I was talking to the guy at the tint shop and he says they serve no pupose and can be scraped off.
Any thoughts on this? I like my RD left and above RVM. I can make a bracket to get around the suction cup problem. Any know the effect of the dots on range and if they are there for a purpose?
I suppose its not going to make your car not run if you took a razor blade and removed the black dots, all they are is sun shade. May look a little funny at resale time if they are just removed from one side and look out of balance. The human mind struggles when it sees things that looks out of balance.
Here's a link to some of the solutions to the problem that other people have come up with to get around it...

Wow! $1.39, you must get some type of resellers discount, I just did an exhaustive on line search and the cheapest I could find that stuff anywhere was $1.42...

Care to share us your secret source or pass your dealers discount on to some of the rest of us here?
well i said screw it, the rd is located in a nice spot, hard to see/notice spec with only 1 wire running up into the mirror wires
so i'm done with that now
on a side note just hardwired my sirius sat radio in, had to purchase a cig lighter adaptor that split it into power/ground, as i didn't want to bother with the sodering(i suck at that stuff), so the two things i use the most now turn on/off with my car, i'm fricking loving it

Congrats. So much more fun than paying someone at BestBuy $40. DIYing is addictive.Originally Posted by Kayrac
Use a peace of heavy clear packing tape on the dots, 3M? worked for me but i made a special Plexi glass bracket.
