    Default My Blue 9500I install

Just got my 1st pictures up of my install. Just wanted to share.

I had a problem with mounting to the dots above RVM so i made a plexi glass cut out and used heavy double sided tape. I figured it looked cleaner and would do the least restriction of the GPS signal. I also have the external amplified speaker plugged into the headphone jack with a special clip to hold the wires out of the way.

I have the 9500I hard wired high to the left of the RVM 1/2 under the tint strip so its pretty stealthy if your not using a flash (the one below is an 8500).

I took apart the hard wire smart cord and drilled 3 holes into a blank switch spot, then covered with a black rubber peace to dim the buttons (they were too bright). It also helped make the mute button more flush. I have a new cover im working on that will have a small kill switch for a blue hard wire smart cord.

This is a view from the other side, you can see the heavy duty wax tape that prevents the 9500I from squeaking against the plexi glass.

    Hi CJR,

Your install looks pretty neat. I like how your 9500i's front laser sensor, when seen from level, is just below the bottom edge of the tint strip. The idea of the wax tape to stop the 9500i bumpers from squeaking against the Plexiglas is a really neat idea too.

Nice install! I also had the dots problem. I ended up just visor clipping my 9500i to the headliner, but I'm sure it compromises GPS performance.

Looking at that third pick down you have that headliner console thing there. Just below the light on the left and next to those center buttons it looks just big enough for the 9500i display. I'd place masking tape over the front of the 9500i and carefully cut around the tape with a razor blade to get an exact match of the 9500i face. Peel the masking tape off and stick it on that headliner console just below that light, cut it out for a perfect match and stuff the 9500i in there. Then cut out just enough of the side facing your windshield for the business end of the 9500i to be exposed out the front.

You could even make that left side light cover so it could flip open to access the buttons on the 9500i. Sure it would take you a weekend or two to get it done just right, but you'd have the coolest custom 9500i install ever known to man.

Or, make that light lens cover so it easily pops on and off, install the 9500i this same way inside there. Then when locking up your vehicle you could just pop the cover back over it. No thief would ever think to pop off what they thought to be only a light cover in their efforts for something to steal. You couldn't get more stealth than that.

Or leave it like it is, looks good, but not much if any different than the 10,000 million other detector hardwire installs like that.

Send your car UPS to me for a weekend with return shipping prepaid and for under $5,000 (plus materials and labor) I could do an extreme custom install like the above mentioned for you.

Thanks guys. I don't really need it super stealth because its very rare that things get stolen around here. Besides most people know not to mess with my car. 8) I just didn't want it too obvious.
Those dots drove me crazy fore quite some time. The plexi glass also doesn't get as cold as the glass, so the suction cups actually stick better.

    Hi CJR238,

I think you will like my idea better than relying on the suction cups to hold the RD to the clear Plexiglas. Besides, extra mounting brackets are dirt cheap on that auction site.

I really liked the 3M's Dual Lock fastener idea, but i didn't want to block the GPS signal any more than i already have and the plexi glass is less obvious.

I may switch to the Dual Lock fastener if the RD falls down, so far so good and its been 6 months.

Only metallic materials and carbon fiber absorbs microwave and GPS radar. The 3M stuff doesn't affect GPS reception at all.
