Escort 8500 X50 "sel cal"

I got this message yesterday for the first time. I've had this unit almost 2 years to the day. I'd swear they may these things break down on purpose.

Anyway, does this mean it's going to die soon? What should i do now? (The "sel cal" went away after i restarted it).

Just means it didnt do a proper calibration when it started up. If you keep getting it, or the dreaded Service Required then send it in for a tune up.

I've tested an X50 which has displayed the dreaded Self Cal issues numerous times, but not yet been sent to the repair shop. The detection range of this RD was excellent however when encountering actual police radar. I too used to think the Self Cal message meant trouble but the more I read on the forum its not as big a concern as the service required message.

Have you encountered messages like Cal3Err or Cal7Err? I'm curious to know what these mean.

I had a self cal error maybe 6 months ago on my SRX and it worked fine both before and after that. It's probably no big deal.
