This problem only seems to happen when the GPS antenna is installed in the interior of the car. In Roy's video, I saw his installed on the outside of his truck. Is that still true? How about yours Bob, interior or exterior installation?

i will say, they give plenty of cord though, should i need to run it elsewhere.
Escort gives you enough cord lengths to thoroughly hog tie a steer! Steak. Its whats for dinner.

    djrams80,

Mine's been in the interior, very low on the windscreen, and up to the extreme right of the passenger-side A-pillar.

Well that lasted for a day.

it lost the signal while driving for a few seconds, then it wouldn't lock onto it for another short drive.
now this is under a dash mat, and it was a cloudy, but still hot day.
i hung it in front of the vent and after a minute of cold air it worked again.

time to play with some re-routing options.

okay, yesterday it was cloudy and slightly cooler out, and i didn't have time to move it yet, but it worked flawlessly. i had a lot of running around to do, and such, and each time it got a signal quickly and worked great.
i'm sure the next sunny hot day it will again act up, so i'll still need to re-route it somewhere, just not sure where yet that won't get any sun.

Have you tried wrapping the antenna with white electrical tape? The white covered antenna should then stay cooler in sunlight.

i have it under a dash mat, so it's not in direct sunlight.

i'm thinking just the shear heat is a problem, so maybe i'll look at mounting it down lower, depending on how well it gets a signal. since the mat still gets hot. (it's light grey)

in the house it got a signal no problem when i bench tested it, so i'm hoping it can handle a lower mount somewhere.
once i have a few minutes to open the dash up and pull out some excess cord i'll play with it.

well i've had it lower, down slightly under the console since yesterday and it is 110 out today, and so far so good. it's actually hanging upside down with a piece of double sided tape.

i think for the most part, if people keep this out of the direct sun in the hot states, they should fair okay. or maybe try the white tape trick like MEM-TEK suggested.

the antenna is pretty good at getting a signal, down and out of the way, so it may be a matter of playing with locations, or maybe in a back window that has dark tint, since the windshield has none down low.

This evening I finished up with my 9500ci installation. I didn't have time to route the front shifter cables through the firewall before it got dark, so I did a temporary routing of the wires past the hinge area of my front passenger door. While doing the rear shifter installation I noted that there were a couple of metal cutouts directly underneath the center brake or "nerd" taillight at the bottom of my rear window. I simply stuck my 9500ci's GPS antenna through one of the metal cutouts underneath the center brake light. The antenna's strong magnetic base holds it in place just fine, and the antenna has a clear view of the sky since the center light housing is all plastic. I will let you guys know if I too experience any heat issues regarding GPS reception!
