Yes they do. When I had the vette they would pull me over in East Texas sometimes because they knew who I was and liked to be seen with a vette pulled over I guess. I would never get a ticket, they just wanted to jaw on the side of the road like that. Y'know like I didn't have anything better to do.

Of course now I'm older than all the deputies so that doesn't hurt either. I used to be a punk, now I'm called captain so it does get better the older you get.

Too funny. The older I get the more I tend to drive generic cars and drive cautiously, but the LEOs around here seem to be getting more and more aggressive. My state's tendency to do "Take Back Our Highways" projects where they get officers out of the head office and let them do traffic even though they don't know what they're doing, along with the fact that we have a stretch of interstate now that is still at 45, even though the construction is long over, is what got me back into the RD game...

Yes they do, especially when you are young and think you know it all. These "stupid" LEO's just might teach you a thing or two before it's over.

Not if you are smart in how you mount it. If so, then the only time they're going to see it is if they pull you over and search your car. At that point, you probably have a lot bigger problems than your radar detector.

I go by a lot of cops that go undetected but I don't think they have radar on because it picks up the ones that are going a bit slower than usual trying to catch you speeding. I don't underestimate the guys down here any. There's maybe 2 or 3 that actually know what they're doing and hide around corners etc. But all the others are fresh out the academy or used to eating donuts and responding to house parties. I know that someday my luck will catch up to me and I'll get a ticket. But 'til then I'm not going 30mph down a highway!... yeah we have highways down here where the speedlimit is 30 mph.

It is important to differentiate between a highway and a freeway. Lots of "highways" go through residential or business districts, with traffic lights and crosswalks every block, so of course they will have a 30 mph speed limit. But I've got money that says you don't have any freeways -- no intersections, no red lights, no business or residential driveways -- with 30 mph limits. It sounds like you're trying to make a dishonest point with weak semantics.

It sounds like you're trying to make a strawman, as he never said anything about freeways. I don't know what kind of roads he has in mind, but I could show you several places in the southeast where you have long unobstructed straightaways, 4 travel lanes, turn lanes galore. Yes, there are intersections, businesses, signals, etc. but they're state HIGHWAYS. In places where they're not just trying to fleece the tourists the PSL is usually 40-50 depending on conditions. But come on down to Flomaton, AL/Century, FL area and you will see a 5 lane road with VERY few openings/intersections/signals and it is 30 MPH for 3-4 miles.

Thus, my simple rule when buying any radar detector:

ALWAYS BUY NEW FROM AN AUTHORIZED DEALER OR DIRECTLY FROM THE MANUFACTURER.

Oh man. Is this only on the 9500 on up or will they upgrade older X50s too? I ask because I recently jumped ship and got the V1, but I wouldn't mind having the X50 for my other car so long as it will sniff out those quick trigger pulls. Hell, I'll still use it anyway, but if there was an upgrade of some kind that would be awesome. On the other hand, I can't imagine that Escort would openly advertise such an upgrade - for detecting quick trigger - since most users wouldn't be familiar with it or even know there was a flaw in their detectors.

No big deal; just trying to point out there are indeed "highways" worthy of the name in my neck of the woods that do indeed have a 30 mph psl...
