K alert turns to Ka??

Passing this speed sign the k band alert went to ka when i got close to it. There are no door openers or anything like that. went by it again and it did it again.
What could it be?

well, could be a number of things. the sign is out of tune or using a cheap type transmitter.

your detector is out of tune slightly.

put your detector in specmode and see what it registers as freq wise.

I can simulate similar results using my handheld tester. i can hit it for Ka, but sometimes the detectors start at k band, then jump to ka when i put it closer.

find some other known k band sources such as door openers and try them in spec mode as well to see if it stays on a k band alert.

if everything is jumping to ka, sounds like a tune up is needed.

also, try tht mode as well, to rule out an actual secondary source near that sign.

I dont know about 9500i. But before I had an x50 and it did the same thing to me. I would get a strong k band from the sign and as soon as I go past the sign it would jump to ka band. I didnt know why it happen.

could be second or third harmonics from a strong k band signal... I t only happens real close to the radar source

hmm... Ill have to try that. Ill post back to tell the results.

I can turn off my V1 right in front of some K band door openers and when I turn it back on, there will be one Ka band alert with multiple K band hits for about 1-2 seconds and then the Ka alert will disappear.

Yeah that's what i guess it is. I tried it in expert mode and it would show 1 k-band signal then it would go to 1 Ka-band signal. But when i pass it it would go back to 1 k-band signal.
I also tried it on some door openers but it wouldn't change on them. So i guess it just must be the radar in that speed sign.
