    Default Escort 9500i

I am considering getting an Escort 9500i and have a few questions.

Other than the color, is there any difference in the red and blue LED versions? Is there a price difference? Reason I ask is I don't see any different order numbers for the different colors. i actually prefer the blue.

Escort offers database update subscriptions but the description says they are for the 9500ix. Are those updates for the 9500i also?

This question may stir some controversy and has probably be discussed before, but I like to get some feedback on where to mount a 9500i? Some say mount it high, some low. I'd like to get some feedback from those of you who actually have and use a 9500i. Most radar detectors are relatively trouble-free.

    Thanks.

For 50 more get 9500ix or you will regret it...ix isnt just a color difference the blue one can actually connect to our computer and be updated and is also blue.

    No

Escort no longer offers the 9500i blue. When they did, it was $50 more than the red.

The 9500i does not have a camera database like the 9500ix does, so therefore, no database updates. Escort did release a firmware update for the 9500i however, so the 9500i's firmware is updatable via online download and a mini USB cable.

I always mount my RDs as high as practical.

I agree with this 100%. For $50 more, the 9500ix has speed camera and RLC alerts. The 9500ix also automatically locks out false alerts, as opposed to the manual lockouts of the 9500i. The 9500ix is well worth the extra $50.

I think forum member nascar said it best:

I am not sure I understand this? Are you saying that only the blue version can be updated - and are you referring to the 9500ix or the 9500i?

Does anyone know why the blue version of the 9500i was discontinued?

I am not sure I want autolocking of falses? I am worried that it will lock out real alerts or that there could be actual LEO RADAR operating in a previously locked-out location. Can autolock be turned off on the 9500ix?

Also, in thsi state, RLC must have warning signs posted at least 100ft before the intersection. I have no problem with RLC (if they are working properly) except that the ticket is sent to the owner rather than the driver. Running red lights around here is a problem and the cameras are doing a good job catching the offenders. Speed cameras might be another matter. That I know of we don't have them here.

I appreciate the input but I think the 9500i is a better choice for my use. But I am willing to listen to further input on this.

    Thanks.

Before the 9500ix came out their was the 9500i which came in a red and blue version the blue version costed 500 and the red is 450 but the 9500ix came out and is only available in blue and cost the same as the other 9500i but has more features and Escort didnt drop the price on the 9500i which i think is stupid and theyprobably discontinued the 9500i blue because you would have to be a moron to buy it unless it was much cheaper, but the 9500ix has alot more fatures than the 9500i its not just a color difference and if you have a 9500i you can send it in to be upgraded for $129 to escort. If your getting 9500i just add 50 dollars its that simple and 9500ix is the only one that has speed camera database amd the rlc. The only reason I would get 9500i is if it was much cheaper and it had Autolearn since every street in my city has a rlc and i dont travel and their isnt speed cameras in tx so it almost is a good match for me.

For the same money that you would have paid for the 9500i blue you get the 9500ix with blue display. That's why the 9500 blue was discontinued - it cost the same as the ix, but had fewer features. You can turn Autolock off if you don't like it. A big advantage the ix has over the i version is that you can down load system upgrades on your computer. That's a biggie - no more having to send the detector in and being without it. I've been without my V1 for a week now. But with the ix, I'll never have to worry about that.

I would go with the ix if not only because its blue. IMO the red bleeds to much at night and the blue is much clearer.

I could go into why the ix is better but the above have made the reasons clear, so buy the ix because its cool Blue.

Thanks. I agree - I don't care for red LED RD displays. I much prefer the blue - actually I would prefer a blue/green color (good for night vision preservation - some studies indicate better than red).

I am leaning towards the 9500ix. Still not ready to commit yet though. I will continue reading and asking others for advice.

    Thanks.

A question about proper mounting of the 9500ix.

I know the 9500ix needs to be mounted so that the top of it is under the glass exposed to the sky.

I have read an online version of the 9500ix manual that indicates the RD should be mounted on the vehicle windshield with the suction cup mount. However, I don't like those types of mounts as I feel they unsafely obscure vision.

My vehicle is not really great for an above the RVM because there are the little black dots on the windshield there and the sunvisors extend almost to the mirror. Personally, I prefer an above the RVM mount with sticky velcro using the suction cup mount without the suction cups.

So I usually mount on the dash - either mid-dash towards the rear of the dash, or on the left side close to the windshield.

But I have never heard of anyone either on here or elsewhere installing a 9500ix with velcro on the dash.

Will a dash mount work ok with a 9500ix as long as the RD s higher than the windshield wipers?

    Thanks.

Yes, but your performance may suffer. I have a thread that resolved the dot issue, and there are a few other ways around it as well. Mount it high.
