Default Ka lockout - absolutely impossible?

I understand that the 9500i is not designed to lockout Ka by three touches of the mute button. Would there not be any practical way to get a Ka lockout by means of a special software external command? Several times a week for the last 6 months I've have to travel within sight of an (apparently permanent) advisory sign that emits an extremely strong Ka signal that I start getting annoyed by when I'm still five minutes away. I know most Ka is speed radar but plainly not all is actually so dangerous. Why the heck didn't Escort provide for Ka lockout!!?

I can only assume that it is because locking out ka band could prove to be dangerous since most radar that is used by police is ka band nowadays.

Probably because they know of the fairly real threat of locking out legit police radar by band frequency range exclusion, and figured fewer people would suffer from X/K lockout as majority of police radar these days is Ka.

Where is this Ka drone located? In the USA? The FCC prohibits any type of unmanned Ka radar devices. They only permit unmanned X band and K band radar devices.

    Are you sure about that?

    Speed Labs

The U.S. Department of Transportation and NHTSA, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, provided new Drone Radar Operational Guidelines, DOT HS 807 753, allowing the use of drone radar transmitters. The new regulations did not require the radar transmitter to measure the speed of vehicle with its return Doppler shift frequency. Now, radar drones could be unattended and only transmit, not receive back a signal, “the FCC has recently reconsidered and will now permit the use of unattended, continuously radiating radar (i.e., drone radar). Nevertheless, the Commission continues to require that any radar units used in drone operation must be type accepted...”

Radar drones must transmit on K or Ka bands, never X band. The FCC allows other uses of X band including automatic door openers, burgular alarms, truck braking systems, train navigation, and others. Detector drivers will disregard a X band encounter as a false alert. Only the State of New Jersey still uses X band for speed enforcement under state contract. Now, thousands of drone radar transmitters are found in school zones, on arrow boards, on DOT trucks, atop ambulances and fire apparatus, in neighborhoods, accompanying school children mounted to their school busses, and along dangerous sections of highways. Radar drone use is increasing and is effective in reducing speeds. Texas A & M’s Texas Transportation Institute study, 00-1475, confirms their effectiveness saying, “speeds were reduced with the radar drones...passenger car speed reduction was significant.” Other studies confirm the findings.

Earlier this year we began getting calls from commuters in the Bay area of California complaining about new k band radar drones that were popping up on the 280 Interstate. After some research, we learned that in fact that these devices were being used for real time traffic reporting by SpeedInfo (More info here:

    http://www.radarbusters.com/news/current/radar-drones.asp)

Well it seems that the idea of real radar drones are now being considered by the state of Florida. In state bid ITB001-07 the state of Florida is looking for 100 K or Ka band radar drone systems that will be placed on their Interstate Highway system. One interesting item about these drones is that in their bid, the State of Florida is asking that the drones transmit in intermittent bursts, as to simulate instant on traffic radar.

Michael, I love your contributions to the forum and continue to do so, but I have to wave my BS flag at this one unfortunately. Most of the Your Speed Is signs in my area are 34.7 Ka. It would actually be incredibly helpful to have a lockout device capable of dealing with those things.
