    Modern radar guns do not leak. I'm not sure about guns that would be as old as what you're talking about, but any Ka band guns used today are certainly recent enough to not fall under the catergory of needing a warmup period of any kind.
    I really appreciate your replies to this topic, btw. Let me see if i understand this correctly. You are saying that no components of a modern traffic radar gun are "on" in any sense of the word until the LEO pulls the trigger. If that is not the case, is it possible for a radar gun to leak if it were incorrectly maintained (shielding improperly replaced, etc.) or was damaged in some way that did not affect its basic operation?

    The reason i am asking all this is to determine some explanation for the scale of the signal response of the RD under the circumstances (very rare indeed). It was barely chirping while i was not 10 feet away and the gun was pointed forward. When i moved past, into the zone of the gun horn, the signal dropped off to nothing. Five hundred feet down the road, some 40-50 seconds later, the RD maxed out and continued to do so as i was parked at the gas station, even after the LEO has passed my location, just from reflected signals.

    If they leak, it's not a leakage that is detectable by a radar detector. I have four radar units, and my V1 has never picked up anything from any of them unless they were transmitting.

    Heres the stalker I believe was used, its 2 directional and can be used one direction or another or both.


    Rear Traffic Alert Warns Officer
    Rear Traffic Alert, a proprietary new feature of the 2X, is designed to warn the patrol officer of rapidly overtaking same-lane traffic.
    Rear Traffic Alert is active when the patrol vehicle is most vulnerable to rear-end collisions--pulling into traffic from a standing start.

    Yeah thats what the NY State Troopers use.

    So say the LEO was parked there looking for speeders. Would that delay of alert cost me?

    No, because it sounds like the radar (though looked like it was facing you) was facing away from you. He wouldn’t of gotten your speed till you passed and he already had a customer.

    Ok, after an experience just now, I bet that the delay before was normal.

    I'm sitting at an intersection when I get an alert for Ka 34.7. No cop is in sight. I make my turn, and the alert goes away. A couple moments later, it alerts me again. This time I saw the cop in the distance behind me, approaching me, and he eventually made a turn. I'd say thats a good amount of distance for a rear alert. Now if I had a V1 with arrows, I wouldn't have had to guess where he was coming from . But I suppose that doesn't matter because I've become very fond of Spec Mode on the Escort units. . Moreover, both alerts were at a location with a TrueLock. I guess I've also grown to enjoy the quietness of the 9500ix.

    Pretty good without a rear antenna. It takes some time to get to know the nuances of any RD.
    I know I love the quiet of the 9500ix and spec mode, plus a few other features you will find fun/useful at some point.

    What features? AutoVolume has proven useless against my stereo But automatic nature of TrueLock proved itself the other day when a LEO was sitting at an area that had been struck by lightning. The leo was smack in the middle of a locked out area running K band, which was being locked out.

    While on the topic of TrueLock, what does the difference in frequency for a K band to notify in an area under TrueLock?
