Maybe that would have increased the price and weight, but I'm a bit surprised Escort did not include it. Also, can we expect to see Escort's sister company, Beltronics announce a detector similar to the Redline?
My bet is the RedLine is a test to see how well its received and at some point a RedLine-ix will be made once we beat it up a bit. IMO the RedLine was made to show they can make a dash mount unit that has better sensitivity than the V1.

Beltronics already has the RedLine=STi. Basically the RedLine is the STi.
FWIW, I asked and received this reply from Escort:

    Dear ,

    Thank you for your email.

This product was created for the driver that only cares about raw performance. While I agree that the features and benefits of the 9500ix's AutoLearn and Defender Database are way too important to go without--there were many customers that just want to know about all signals out there, and from the furthest distance.

At the same time, we wanted to retain the Stealth capabilities (the Redline is undetectable by radar detector detectors).

Just a different product for a different driver.

    Best Regards,
    Rachel

    Any opinions appreciated!
Return it - you have nothing to lose.

While you're waiting for the Redline to be released, go ahead and test a Valentine One.

This was immediately obvious to me. It boggles the mind that Escort has to even bother to explain it to anyone. I just don't get what all the hoopla is about. The Redline is an improvement on the STi. Period. Why anyone is freaking out that it's not "the ultimate RD" just baffles me.

Exactly correct. The Redline is basically an STi with a few more dBs.

Redlight and speed cams are popping up like weeds in SE Louisiana. 90% of the 4000-5000 miles a month I drive are on busy Interstates (I10 and 12 for the locals), with little done in rural areas.

Should I return the 9500ix and sit tight untill further testing of the Redline or just stick with the 9500?

If redlight speed traps are popping up like weeds in your area- the Redline RD won't inform you of this. I am not familiar with the 9500ix and if it had gps functions and database updates ( I assume it does) and if it does have this capacity i would say keep the 9500ix or as I did get the GX65.- I just downloaded a database update today covering in part Arizona where I live and about 5-6 other states.
