Default What's the difference between original 8500 and the the older X50 (S7)

I never thought to factory reset my 8500 when my wife had issues with cal messages. Seems to be running fine in the Jeep not a message in a week.

Now that I'm replacing 8500 with V1 and have very increased doubts in 9500ix truelock I'm not sure if I should keep it for backup or sell it. So many people seem to rave about the S7 (I assume it must be an S7 if it's not an X50).

What is a fair price for it. Always on visor, never in the sun.

I can't seem to find case for it, did original 8500's come with the fancy cases like they do now?

So is my unit like the refurb ones on Ebay that folks seem very happy with. Or are those early X50's.

If I sent it in for check up, would it come back the same as an early X50?

When I factory reset it, I think it said 15.

I think the main difference is the x50 has POP detection.

    Wouldn't that just be firmware?

No, Escort advertised the original 8500 as upgradeable to new threats but when POP became an imaginary threat...you couldn't upgrade the 8500 to the 8500 X50 for some reason. Escort always tells you that you can upgrade but their idea of upgrade is that they will give you $80 for your old Escort towards a new and improved and "upgradeable" model.

Did anybody get that free upgrade from Escort 9500i to Escort 9500ix...I didn't think so, wasn't it about $140 to upgrade?

What erks me is now they give $80.00 for any piece of junk. Doesn't matter if you were an existing customer or not. We'll treat you the same.

Can fix temporarily, but i would send it in to be safe

S7 is all 8500 non X50's and some X50's. TrueLock needs to be used cautiously unless in a No Risk area.

What is a fair price for it. Always on visor, never in the sun. ~100

I can't seem to find case for it, did original 8500's come with the fancy cases like they do now? Yes

So is my unit like the refurb ones on Ebay that folks seem very happy with. Or are those early X50's. most likley.

If I sent it in for check up, would it come back the same as an early X50? Sounds like it.

Well there are 3 different key changes with the 8500's as far as performance i have seen/noticed over the years. Earlier good condition units are good new ones aren’t.

    - [few year run] S7 8500 - Very awesome performance and little to no filtering, fast. Gave VR a good run for there money. (worth the referb)

    - [very short few month run] 1st S7 8500X50 - Awesome unit slight edge over the 8500 in sensitivity and POP mode was added. (realy worth the referb)

    - 2nd S7 8500X50 - Sensitivity decreased slightly for some reason. (keep the xi for back up)

    - M4 8500X50 - Bad ramp up, no better sensitivity. (keep the xi for back up)

8500 is a great back up, i still use my 8500 S7 for my GF. Though its not as good as my 9500ix its a good unit. The problem is they have issues because of age but also the S7's get out of calibration easily.

    mswlogo,
The 15 you saw, when resetting, denotes rev. 15 which is the last rev. of the original 8500. The main differences between the 8500 (S7) and the X50 (S7) is pop mode. We all know that is a joke now. The only REAL performance difference between the two is that the X50 is a little better on K band. Also, I was always under the misguided impression that the 8500 non X50 suffered from a delay in reacting to I/O, Q/T whatever you call it. After seeing happya$$'s posts about the 8500 and how quick they are, I bought one. He is right, they are quick and perform as well as anything out there. I would not hesitate in sending your unit in for a tune/check up. They make a good back up or hell, a good frontline detector. IMHO
