    Default 12.2 Volts HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I just added a 6ft telephone wire onto my radar detector and hid the wires, looks very sweet! BUT....... I constantly get low volt when I turn it on, it was totally pissing me off. I figured out a way to still get it to work though by pressing the power button right when i cut it on and it'll just go to scanning or what not, but will eventually say low volt and cut off. It kept saying low volt, so my brain thought "well why dont u turn it to volt mode and see what it is?" Well it wouldnt work at the time, wouldnt cut in the slightest just kept saying low volt. my little trick above wouldnt even work. so I was forced to drive without it (I was just waiting on my girl in my car so we could go to the movies, so I couldnt do much with it then) But we get to the movies and before we go in I unplug the smartplug wire from the telephone wire and hook it directly up (it works this way, I dont know why it wont work with the telephone wire, which is my question.) But with it actually turning on right without saying low volt i turn it on to volt mode. It says arounf 13.8 which is what it is suppose to be. So I turn it off and plug it back up to the telephone wire. Well, THIS time it actually wants to turn on right, but its volt is between 11.9-12.4 So I just cut the car off and go inside to the movies. After the movies I come back out and leave, i turn it on. It cuts on properly but is still at the same voltage (11.9-12.4) I was trying to see what it said when it was at low volt but it never happened. But still this low of a volt isnt good either (i dont think). But it just stays like that till I got home, which is to where i'm at now.

But my question is why is my volts low? What can I do to fix it? Someone please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phone cord is bad or the adapter maybe an inverted model. Make sure it is a 4 line cord and adapter that is straight thru. Also check car battery and connections.

what do you mean by an inverted model? What exactly do you mean by a straight thru adapter? Checked the car battery already, cleaned the terminals. Thats how i got it to work occaionally.

    Anymore input would be great!

    And HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Inverted would be such that the four inputs are reversed on output. It seems strange but I ran across one when I was hardwiring my RX65. On the other hand, my car battery was almost exhausted and when I replaced it, the "long cord" voltage problems vanished.

Might be too long of a cord as well, the shorter you keep it the better....good rule of thumb.

ok, after thinking awhile... whenever I plug the smartplug back it it gives the right amount of volts around 13.8. But whenever I plug it back up to the 6ft telephone wire it goes way down and says low volt, and goes anywhere from 10.8 volts - 12.4 volts. So what are the chances that the telephone wire and or the adapter is bad? Thats what I am thinking but, dont wanna waste any more money if I dont have to.

Also, is it bad to still run the radar detector with low volts? I dont wanna mess it up.

Personally i think your cord is too long, and also i wouldnt run it on low volts, the change of voltage can cuase the device to over heat and fry circuits or other bad electrical thinigs can occur..dont do it...is what i would advice.
