im really curious as far as the placement as well.. i bought a redline and put it on my dash.. one night after i went through a toll in va, i saw a cop gunning but the damn rd did not go off.. i dont get it... i mounted it by my a pillar on the driver side.. wondering where everyone else places theirs especially if detectors are illegal in the state they are at..

Mount the detector as high as possible (headliner) and make sure it's as close to center as possible. Your less likely to pick up the radar signal with it mounted low.

If you're in a state where you're detectors are not allowed, it may be worth picking up one of the concealed units (e.g. 9500ci, etc.)

This hobby gets expensive very quickly

I mount all of my RD's except for the Pro78SE (wife's car) on the visor of my vehicles.

I just bought an Escort Passport 8500 X50 (Euro). I mounted up in the right rear view mirror.

My 8500x50 has great range - it sounds like the effectiveness of your RD is being limited by your windshield. I agee with the people that say test it by holding up out your sunroof or window to test it.
