Default If 9500ix is mounted high and out of site,.. Does the GPS work?

Wondering, as I am still looking for a discrete RD to add to my LI Quad... Thanks.

If you mean by the RVM, mine works fine. Might take a little extra time for initial lock, but that's just a guess, being the roof might act as a shield.

GPS Works fine for me as well, I have mine about 3" away from the roof. Mind you, I have been getting a lot of "gps signal lost" alerts but I think that's part of my geographical location more than where I mounted it. I can't comment on the difference though because I have never mounted it below Rear View Mirror level

I have mine mounted to the passenger side visor and the GPS works fine. It would normally take a few minutes for a GPS lock, but I got great reception after that (I have mine set to show speed so I can tell if the GPS data is spotty). One cloudy/overcast day it had been about five minutes and still no lock. I slid the detector forward about an inch (using the escort visor clip) and I got a lock. If I leave it slightly forward, then I get a in lock in less than a minute (in seconds if it has been on recently).

In its slightly forward position giving fast GPS locks.

Mine works fine anywhere high when it's mounted on the windshield. But when I use the visor clip, it sucks... It takes forever to get a signal if it does at all! That's probably related to the car though.

The positioning of the visor doesn't allow me to move it forward to get a signal. My advice is mount in on the windshield for best performance. The visor mount decreases performance for me, and makes it harder to reach the buttons.

Great, looks like it will work for me then. Yes I want to use the suction cups but go as high on the glass as I can with it. Thanks All.

I had forgot to add that if you have the metalized type of tint strip at the top, that could also have an impact on performance.

I used to have mine mounted there and it does indeed work.

But now I mount all 3 (My Jeep, Wifes Passat and Daughters Acura) all right on the headliner itself with the visor clip to get it slightly more forward for better locking. I also use a Level to level it. Sometimes it takes a little work with ruber spacers etc. (those suction cups come in handy) On my daughters Acura the visor is still free to use if you pull it out of the clip before you fold it down.

In all 3 cases I grab power from inside the ceiling console and don't bother with mute buttons. 9500ix does not need one.

You also get a slightly better view mounting as far forward as you can.

When mounted on headliner, it's up to stay, you don't want to be taking that up and down unless it's an emergency.

I have mine mounted high directly under the roof in mu 04' passat its under because of the super suction cup mount from escort, i have not had any problems acquiring gps. i will post a picture later today.
