Default Question about which RD would best suit me?

Sorry for the long post I just need help deciding on which detector is best for me. I figured I'd stop here since I'm sure a lot of you guys have tested various RD.

I don't know who all saw my introduction but I am planning to buy a radar detector soon. In theory most of my driving will be in the suburbs with grocery stores and different places that will possibly cause a false alert. However I do not live in the heart of the city most of my driving will be consisting of city highways (not interstates) as well as main roadways with moderate traffic and some stores around. I keep going between a few detectors and I'm not sure which one to get, I have my eye on the 9500ix, valentine 1 and redline. Mainly what I'm going for is something that isn't going to have false alerts and is also going to give me the best distance of alerting to real threats such as k band keep in mind its been a long time since I've been around a RD so I'm not sure how bad false alerts are nowadays with the newer RD. I have been watching reviews on youtube and it seems like the 9500ix response to alerts is delayed more than the v1 and redline? So much so that it seems scary close and only gives you about a second to react. I was initially going to go with the 9500ix due to the auto lockout feature since I will be near automatic doors a lot and other things that emit radio frequencies. However after looking at the redline I'm starting to consider that a lot more. Is the redline a good detector for "city" driving? I will also be up in the mountains quite frequently as the weather gets nicer I went up there last weekend and saw about 5 cops all of which were using speed traps up in around the bends of the road. So I also would want something that will work good for that type of drive as well. Sorry for the long post.

Your post is not long! Your in the same boat as all of us, but you have done your home work that is good! The ix is great for the city C/O (constant on radar), not for lidar (no RD is fool proof) nor a hand gun I/O instant on radar (deadly for almost all RDs). The V1 has false alarm issues (I ignore the K band falses at the low volume untill the signal gets strong enough) but with the phone apps V1C opens a new world (run the Ka Guard off for instant fast long distant alarms). The new redline will be out in 2 weeks for the public with the band segmentation and the RDR (radar detector rejection) on/off, with that and Escort live (to lock out false alarms), that might be the way to go for we will know (its reported catching things greater that 1/3 of a second) in a couple of months on how the baby unit will work, hope no more sleeping and slow alarms that miss fast I/O that Escort is famous for....

9500ix or Redline with band seg/RDR will be best for you.Either unit I would use it in city mode to calm the falses out.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the redline the new record holder for detecting at the longest distance of 13+ miles? Cuz I do occasionally drive the highway and places that don't have a lot of interference. I'd imagine getting a alert at 13+ miles away would be very suddle, like a very suddle beep alert.

Any RD could detect radar many miles away if the earth was flat. The Escort Redline in real test, tested by real folks, did not do very well and even missed C/O radar and is named the sleeping beauty. It is slow and catches signals 2/3's of a second up, Escorts are heavy filtered. The V1C is more than likely the champ with the STi-r (both with filtering turned off and segmented) but hope the new Redline may prove other wise. Beware who writes what......

The RedLine with BS & RDR pretty much smokes everything out there and its range is unbeatable. RedLine never missed C/O and is no longer the sleeping beauty, not that it really was to begin with.

V1 with the V1C is pretty darn good as well, but I just dont like the falsing and putting it in Euro to segment.

Just as CJ says, the new RedLine firmware is awesome, I just received mine and did some testing, OMG this thing is a KILLER. Not sure who the best is between the V1C or RedLine, may depend on features that you prefer. Even with RDR off and all Ka Segments on (for testing only) it did not false to Escort M4 units on Ka, but it did on X band when ran together in same cabin. I will have to chase down a Cobra and a Whistler to see how it falses to them with RDR Off. So far I'm very impressed.

I think it was Happya$$ of GOL that started the Disney name. On the Escort Radar Forum, the Redlind failed very badly during the I/O test. And during an East Coast Group test, and the Redline missed C/O. Several number of tickets were handed over to members where the Redline failed to alarm when it was suppose to. I like the video that shows a Redline that never alarmed to a Leo's clocking traffic and flipped around and blue lighted a speeder while the Redline just sat there. Hope there are no future problems with the Redline like software or solider issues? The new Redline is going to have to prove itself over time for it is faster now and a shoot out among the top 3 has to be done, but it does look impressive with a few reports already out....
