want to know something pretty crazy. I have noticed that just your r/d position right or left on the windshield can effect radar reception significantly depending where the source is coming from.

give it a whirl and see V/G

find a location of a known false and drive by it a few times with the very same detector in different horizontal locations on your windshield

many times even a matter of a foot between the two locations will change the alert !

Since I have been driving with the SmartRadar or the revised Redlinem I have been running them up high up on the windshield (nearly behind my rear-view mirror), just below that shade line. I had been running low for a long time to maximize laser performance, but have noted that indeed radar reception performance is often enhanced by running high. Of course, it also enhances detection from the rear as it has a clearer line of sight to rear sources (or reflected sources from the front).

Just out of curiosity, do we know the dimensions of this new unit, or if they are similar to those of the 9500ix? It looks shorter, to my eye.

I assume the mounting style is staying the same? Such is if you are using a BlendMount (or other) mounting system?

Passport Max 1.3 height 3.2 width and 5.3 long. It uses the new sticky cup which has a different tang than the other RDs. There will be a blendmount for it.
    9500ix 1.4" H x 2.90" W x 5.35" L
    Redline 1.25" H x 3.0" W x 5.0" L
