I mainly will be using it to see if the cops are working their speed trap along a main road in a city sub-burb. I'll also use it on highways in Cleveland OH area. So I was thinking of either the 9500xi or the Redline. If that's not needed I'm up for any other suggestions.
I'm very much in the same boat as the OP. After doing some research earlier today, I've pretty much decided to get either the Passport 9500ix or the Redline. The majority of my driving is done on the highway, straight/flat w/long sightlines for the most part. I do a little driving downtown and in the suburbs as well, but for the most part these are areas where radar isn't an issue. Far and away my primary need for a radar detector is on Hwy 27 (roughly 20 miles each way to/from work Mon-Friday). From what I've gathered in the earlier responses to the OP, I'm thinking Redline would be my best bet? Any input would be much appreciated, especially if I'm wrong.

Running around in the TN mountains, the unfiltered Redline for sure! Many advantages against the TN Trooper I/Os vs the ix... My rabbit got hit with a median sitting I-24 TN Trooper 2 weeks ago just west of the 2 rest areas west of Choo Choo city (the south side rest area is closed)....

Thanks a bunch for your input! Going to go order the Redline now.

One other thing...what does "I/Os" mean? (from your quote " Many advantages against the TN Trooper I/Os vs the ix..."

I/O is instant-on radar where the Leo (law enforcement officer) selects a certain auto that he/she wants to clock (Lidar or known as laser is also instant-on persay). When you are postioned where he wants to hit you with radar (or lidar), he hits the on pad (or trigger) and will monitor your speed. He wants you in the target display- strongest radar return signal (or in the lidar cross hairs) with a tracking record to make sure your the one speeding. You have some chance in certain conditions but you must understand the limits of his equipment and know what to do with a programmed Redline (do not use factory settings for Leos love slow filtered RDs)....

Why the ix? The unfiltered Redline will have about twice the detection range of the ix. The alarm speed of the filtered ix is very very slow which gives the Leo a great tracking record for a ticket. I've read many many threads where folks see the Leo about the time the ix starts to beep, too weak. Please explain? Thanks Ka......

Because he said he will be traveling in s city suburban area the IX should help reduce false alerts. thing is leos always have the advantage it takes 1 second to get a speed reading and there instant on mode is deadly anyways.
