I am pretty impressed that the unit works as well as it does on only two AA batteries. Performance certainly isn't up there with the top units, but for someone who isn't a chronic speeder, the S2 is convenient, and should protect pretty well against constant-on traps.
I take it battery technology hasn't caught up over the years?
There's some rechargable batteries that will put out 1.5 volts, but the ones I had (rayovac renewal) weren't that great. If it will run on the 2.25 volt ones though, I've some Energizer 2500mah ones, they're great.
I just can't belive we can have cars run on batteries but not a solo2 that has equal KA detection....
Yea but you have to take them out, take them back into your house and recharge them. Even if radar detectors are illegal, install a direct wire and it would work the same. If cop pulls you over then just unplug and dash it under the seat.Originally Posted by compu44
I see your point May, I just think some people think it's neat to have a cordless radar, only reason I wanted an Solo2.
I received my unit the other day and had a chance to test is against others that are always praised. If you want the S2 go with it, it compares equally well enough to match the other top ones.
I haven't played around with the other batteries yet, but do have a spare set in the car and will probably switch to rechargable NiMH when these die out.
Not to pop your bubble but did you see the latest test GOL did? The S2 detected KA at like 390 feet, the V1 was at 1100 feet!!!Originally Posted by TSL2000
