Default HI, I'm Tim from NE Ohio

Hello everyone, I've been lurking here for the last couple days and decided I'd register. I'm planning on purchasing a radar detector in the near future and decided to do some research, during which I stumbled upon this great forum. My name's Tim, I'm in my mid 20's, and I hail from Northeast Ohio; more specifically the Akron area.

I've only ever gotten one ticket, back in '05, for doing 72 in a 35. I've had a few close calls since then but, knock on wood, no tickets. I work part-time in IT, and go to school full-time at the University of Akron(GO ZIPS!!!). Until recently the majority of my driving occured during rush-hour, so exceeding the speed limit hasn't even been a possibility. Lately, I find myself doing quite a bit of mid-day driving and I've developed somewhat of a penchant for driving quite a bit over the PSL. I don't mind travelling at the PSL, or at the PSL+5, but if there's a straight-ish road in front of me with few to no cars I'm finding very hard to resist the urge to drive more like PSL+25~30.

In the effort to avoid getting ticketed I've decided to start investing in some ECM for my car, first a good radar detector then a good laser jammer. Don't get me wrong, I understand that all the ECM in the world isn't going to stop me from getting pulled over, and I've resigned myself to the fact that I will get pulled over and ticketed at some point.

So, I guess that brings me back to where I started this post. See everyone around the forum!

Big_T welcome to the forum. Basically the main thing you have to ask yourself is what features are you looking for and would you prefer more features over range. The top two in the industry for your area are going to be the Escort Passport 9500ix or the V1, there is also the new Passport iq out as well which is a GPS unit merged with a 9500ix

Welcome Tim, As prior post stated, there are 2 major players in RD Market. V-1 and Escort(Beltronics) units. One thing to check out if they have these K Band Speed Drones in your area. They make life hard for V-1 owners (Myself) with the constatnt false alerts. But they will have to pry my V-1 from my dead hands, I will never switch unless a new V unit comes along. Also dont forget about the Airplane / Vascar enforcement used by OSP. You will find lots of great reading in the Forums. Welcome

I typically don't drive a lot on the highways OSP uses VASCAR on, but when I do I try to watch my speed. And yeah, there's definately a BUNCH of good information on here. I have been sick the last few days so instead of going out for Halloween I've been staying in, and reading these forums. I'm really torn between the V1 and the 9500ix. Do either the 9500ix or the iq have TSR?

Hi Tim! Regarding the speed sensors that are solar panels with a white tube under it mounted on signage. TSR is not programmable but the V1 is. The V1 does not analyze the signal and decide what to tell you but will always show you what is going on.

I just went through Akron on I-76 with 7 second muting and not a peep and I could sych the arrows and knew exactly where the speed sensors were. Can't do that in a Belscort.

Or, with an Escort unit with TSR, you just don't have to hear the stupid drones at all.

Yes, the Akron area has drones, and further north (Cleveland) is getting them now as well on 271, 90, and 70 & 77. To me, Escort with GPS is the only way to go.

I went with the 9500ci because I wanted a clean install, unfortunately the jammers suck. OTOH, the radar system is the best that Belscort sells, other than the non-existant-in-USA STI-R Plus.
