^ - No,not a "remote unit"...it's a WS (windshield mount) RD.Mount it on Driver side sun visor so has nice unobstructed view down the Median of the Inter-State highways & run the +12V wire "tucked" into the Drivers "A-pillar" so it cannot be seen.
Worst location is near the RVM (rearview mirror) w/ the wire hanging straight down. That makes it much to easy to be seen by the Officer or a THIEF !

I prefer a Visor mount b/c it's out of direct sunlight & prevents overheating of the RD by sun rays & possible heat damage & complete failure of the internal electronics.
Suction cups mounting to the windshield are easily seen from the outside & besides...the Sun will eventually cause the rubber of the suction cups to fail anyways.

Why cant any company sell a unit with a remote screen. I can handle windshield mounting or using the sunvisor but it would be nice to have the display somewhere others cant see like next to the radio.

^ - Well,if you did your homework you would realize that feature is available from multiple Mfg's.
Sounds like it's not just "55" you can't do !

I know of Valentine had a remote display but I also read they are not very good against RDD. What other Mfg's do you speak of? I like to stay in the sub $500 range.

I like the features of the redline, just wish the remote display had more on it.

At that price ceiling ($500) you're out of luck then unless you can find a used STiR.
Unfortunately, the latest model (STiR+) is well north of your limit.

With the new Escort "Max" (once issues/problems) are fixed maybe the owners of the above models will be selling to buy the New toy in the near future.

Get yourself an Escort Redline and mount it in a Stealth Visor type that you can find on ebay. You don't need to see anything to know what is going on. You can just listen to the audible alerts. Don't expect much detection range at all in Virginia either. My greatest alert even with the Escort Redline updates e.g. BS/RDR has been about .75 miles. Once I leave the state I can get detection ranges of 2+ miles at times.
