Default connection to sensors 2 or 3 is bad alert during heavy rain

This weekend I was driving about an hour and a half through some very heavy rain with my LI's on. About halfway through the trip I pulled over for gas and when I started the car again my LI's came on and said something like "connection to sensors 2 or 3 is bad". I re-seated the RJ-11 connectors with the CPU but had the same problem. I also tried turning the LI's on and off via the switch a few times during the rest of the trip in the rain with the same result.

The next day I went out to the car and they started up just fine - no alerts. I looked at the wiring from the head to where they enter the car's cabin and couldn't find any exposed sections.

So I'm starting to worry that I've got a case leak on at least one of the heads. Has anyone else experienced this sort of issue with LI's? I've only had them for just shy of a year now.

Mine alerts that way in very cold weather too. Nothing to worry about.

This is perfectly normal. The connection alerts are not unusual especially as the weather turns colder/hotter affecting battery chemistry hence battery voltages. The LI CPU prefers to see higher voltage and during colder weather especially at start-up, the voltage is drawn down (or when using headlights, wipers, A/C etc.) below the level the CPU like to see and the LI will give connection alerts. You can usually resolve this issue by turning the LI ON not at startup but after your car is up and running after a few seconds or so. If you continue to have this issue, please call me and I will help trouble shoot it with you.

Except I don't believe the unit is operating when it reports this error.

That makes perfect sense, except for one thing:

If it were due to low voltage when starting the car, power-cycling with the car running shouldn't have caused the alert, right? Just thought I'd throw that in in case you didn't see that part of the OP's post...

Unless the OP's battery or alternator is weak and the car's voltage is low when running lights and wipers... or a corroded battery connection or ground is causing issues when wet...

Thanks Cliff, if I encounter this again I'll be sure to call.

Based on the troubleshooting I did at the time I don't believe it to be a voltage issue either, but if I encounter this again I'll grab my voltage stats from my redline (useful feature) and give Cliff a call to troubleshoot while it's happening.

I have gotten this error message a few times over the last two months. I always turn all my electronics on after the car is running. My alternator tested 130 amps at 13.6 volts.

Sometimes it will only happen once, and a simple restart will fix it. Sometimes I will try 10 times in a row and it still happens every time I turn it on. I haven't noticed anything special about the weather.. not too hot or cold, no rain. I checked all my connections and everything looks fine.

If it only happens every once in a while is it not something to worry about? I am worried my heads are not functioning when I get this error.

There is likely nothing wrong with your LI. This is a voltage issue with your battery which is common during the hot summer and cold winter months when battery chemistry changes. The LI CPU Processor likes to see voltage over 13V and when it does not, especially at start up when your starter draws your battery voltage down, it will give connection alerts. To test if the sensors are indeed functional, you can use a TV or cable box IR remote control. Hold the IR remote up against the receiver bubble, within an inch or two, and press the buttons until you hear the LI alert to the "Unknown Gun". You may need to press several buttons to find one that makes the LI alert. If the sensors all alert, there is nothing wrong with your LI and simply ignore the connection alerts.
