I wouldn't be caught dead riding with this in cali. though it's only an infraction, I'm willing to bet if you got pulled over by CHP, they can and will confescate the device, leaving you not only with a ticket, but you'll loose the device as well, and since it's illegal to even possess it, you most likely wont be getting it back.

Device is not defined in the vehicle code.
I'm fairly certain veil is legal in California -- unless there are laws there about covering license plates or coating them, and this law would most likely be in place for other obvious reasons. Veil is not going to be outlawed, it woud be the same effect as saying you can't use windex on your headlights. Veil + RX75 or good laser detector in california is the best you can do, and even if you get hit with a laser ticket, surprise NO JUDCIAL NOTICE IN CALIFORNIA!
Not only that california is a speeder's haven, trial by dec., trial de novo, T&E survey required by statute, etc.. etc.. etc..
