Took me a while to realize what is going on there. It looks like you have two license plates, or something...they are both so dark. Did you put heavy veil on both or something?
Clearly the right plate is much less reflective to infrared. So does the left just have veil, and the right have veil+tape?

Why haven't I seen use of that test mode before? Seems somewhat useful for tests like this.

Nice testing LOPSL The only way I can see that particular test(the tone one) improved would be if you put the plates against a completely black wall. That way, the tone/reflectivity would have been very apparent. By the way, it kinnda sounded like a dolphin or something with the left plate.

    EDIT:
    they are both so dark
I didn't want the license plate numbers visible - for obvious reasons. I tried to keep targeting dot moving so that camcorder's autofocus was always 'catching up' - but one could freeze video in some locations and get the number. Video was also uploaded to MSN Soapbox, it was much clearer (better original colors, more clarity) - normally this is goodness, not this time. Youtube compression took darkened/blurred it, and took care of my concerns.

Dunno, maybe because there's not much passive countermeasure testing going on. This test tone feature is designed for scope alignment (per manual), it's available on the LTI 20/20 and LTI Marksman 20/20. Maybe it's not available on newer generation guns which use a different method for scope alignment.

    ORIGINAL:
No replica plate, no cover, no veil, no lasershield, no buffing/sanding, no nothing else. One is vanilla state plate, the other is state plate with tape.

Point noted Elvato. This test was done by myself in 20 mins, so prep was minimal. Black wall doesn't reflect visible light, don't know about IR. It will be better to use black velvet, velvet absorbs light very well. Then mount it on a 2x2 and attach plate to it, then put it in an open area. Almost perfect conditions, so to speak. But that takes time. Maybe some time in future.

Again, thank you for these tests! Sure, it may only have been 20 minutes, but that doesn't include travel time nor your editing time - so indeed, big thanks!

Definitely going to have to try this out on my replica plate up front.....

I should add - since it was me and me only, on the spur of the moment, with available equipment, in an unknown location - there was NO sabotage.

So at 428 ft there is no difference w/ diffusion tape... thats the conclusion i got...

I got my ticket a while ago @ 691 ft w/ no countermeasures, curious whether veil or tape would make any difference... Either way I'm not sure if I have $100 to spend on myself right now anyway.

IMHO Veil guy should make a smaller $25 dollar bottle or something good for like 2 applications, I would hesitate a lot loss to just pick a bottle up when I need it... Just a thought, but either way good tests.

Yea, it's been suggested before. I personally would have given it a try as well. Maybe something of a "trial" or "sample" size type thing.

As for the tape, the results seem to indicate that the tape does nothing when "shot" at a close range, but it may help if the enforcer decides to shot you from farther out (1000+ feet.)

The Marksman is still a very good lidar gun, and not easy to defeat at that range with passive countermeasures. Folks were testing with camcorders, tv remotes, etc which can't really be extrapolated to lidar guns.

My test shows that one reflects back less than the other. "How much less?" is the question. "How does that map across multiple lidar guns?" is the key question. Not enough to counter the Marksman at that distance, sure. Can't say against other lidar guns, but definitely better than nothing.
