How should Veil look on my headlights.

To Mr. Veil,

I finally got my Veil on my clear plastic headlights. The application was very tricky. First application, I put on too much and when it dried, it turned the headlights into a dull dark grey dirty hazy look. Took that off with commercial grade optics safe Methanol and optics safe pure ammonia (I use the ones at work since I work in this business) and the Veil stripped off very easily. It took 3 seperate tries for me to get the right look? I used your foam brush plus my own disposable painter brushes to smooth out the excess paint (this I found by accident that made for a clean look).

Every application I put on was only 1 pass. A few days it's dried, you can see a thin gray film of haze stuff on the lights when you look close at it. It's pretty obvious as it is not as crystal clear before apps, but when you look at the lights from a far, they don't show the obvious signs that you've put on Veil. Is it right?!? Not that I'm complaining though.

Lights were compromised just a little bit at night. Certainly, it was way better than the last 2 applications.

Yes, they are large photos. Wait until they load all the way and then you can get a nice close-up. Make sure to view them at full size.

If you look closely, you'll see that I have to re-apply it to the chrome rubstrip. I didn't scrub the wax off thoroughly enough before applying.

I'll definitely report back from the Invitational next month.

JDS: Great pics! Any tricks or tips as to your application process?

(1) Do not forget to scrub down the area with rubbing alcohol to get wax and everything else off. That can make the difference between a good application (my headlights) and a really ugly, useless one (my rubstrip).

(2) Use foam brushes, not bristle brushes, and try to use the widest one practical.

(3) Single horizontal strokes appear to work best. If you stop halfway through and make two strokes out of it, it just refuses to stay smooth. On a long rubstrip, this can be a pain in the ass, but is definitely important.

Veil Guy should be able to confirm/add to this, as he has more experience than I do.

Do rock chips cause problems with Veil, i.e., cause it to chip?

I am planning to buy Lamin-X covers for my headlights and foglights and apply the Veil to those instead of directly on my headlights.

Depends on how hard the rock hits it. Although from what I can tell, it doesn't cause the Veil layer to CHIP, but rather it creates a gouge, which is really better because if you lose a chip out of a layer, you create an edge for it to continue peeling. I have a very small gouge, I think it's on the left headlight, where the Veil is slightly depressed in the center and raised around the edges, it's maybe 2-3 millimeters across.

JDS: The "chip" depth you mentioned, how many coatings/applications of Veil is that based on, e.g., one coat?
