LASER in New York state

New York state troopers apparently have new toys. Going on different interstates (I-90, I-86) in NYS I have had so far 5 laser alerts the last 2 weeks, 3 confirmed cop sightings with the laser alert, one cop had pulled someone over and I got LASER alerts on my Bel RX-65 passing them (near Buffalo).

Apparently they're not using a directed gun but something like a radar device that just scans the whole road, so I get the alert as soon as they're in sight, even when I passed them. I got the same on a Police SUV standing on the side of the road (near Chili) and another one between Rochester and Buffalo that was just standing in the middle of the road.

I am astonished that they're using LASER in a very bad way, it seems they're moving away from Ka (which I usually get alerts from)

NY State Police are using LTI Marksman 20-20 laser guns, and I have to agree with you on one thing - when they are set up for a stationary speed trap, they are using laser more and more as their weapon of choice, as I witnessed a couple of nights ago with my wife and son in the car. Of course, they still do use Stalker radar when they are mobile.

Also, if you are driving past the airport on the I-90 coming to the Williamsville toll barrier, you will experience (more often than not) laser falsing.

Nothing has changed to me... if anything I got less laser on the Thruway a few weeks ago, and more constant on Ka band. Normally it's mostly instant on Ka band or laser. They've had laser for over 10 years now.
