Default Decatur Genesis II Ka 35.5 in OPP Cruiser (visual confirm)

So, I'm walking back to the office from a luncheon today (got to see Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko give an address to the Economic Club of Toronto) and there's a whole fleet of motorcycle cops and OPP cruisers waiting to escort the President to the airport.

I see a special Highway Enforcement OPP cruiser parked at the curb with two bored cops (young guy and totally hot young girl cop--but I digress...) and naturally I notice the very small Ka antenna on the dash. For those of you who are wondering what's the big deal--the OPP has pretty much only used K band for the past number of years.

So being the curious type, I approach the side where the hot chick cop is seated and stick my head in the window and ask what kind of radar gun is that. Amazingly both didn't know...and the guy (who was driving) read it out "Genesis II directional". I asked him if that was a Ka band antenna--he said he didn't have a clue. I thanked them, and went on my way.

So, unless Decatur is making a really small K band antenna with the rounded "bubble" top, I can visually confirm 35.5 Ka band is now found in OPP Cruisers.

Hey Jerry, you're something is there anything you don't know about RDs and OPP?
Too bad you didn't have an Escort S2 with two good batteries in your pocket and talk gently with the OPP hottie to turn the radar on, then showing them what radar gun freq they are using, wonder how their faces would have looked like, nothing to do to you, you were just a simple pedestrian and they had to protect the Ukrainian Pres so no way to follow you anywhere you go...

BTW, where was that place you saw the OPPs, that hotel on Bay south of Dundas or Sheraton on Queen and York?

Thanks RW. I appreciate the compliment. ops: I still have much to learn (Star Wars reference to those who like the movies.)

It would have been funny walking around with a detector, since that's not illegal in Ontario.

The speech by Yushchenko and the OPP were at the Harbour Castle Westin.

Very often I go to the Toronto Star building and 10/20 Bay buildings but didn't happen today so I missed the opportunity to witness that OPP convoy parked by the hotel, last time I saw them in Toronto was when our PM was downtown and they were securing that hotel on Bay south of Dundas across from the City Hall (the twin buildings), cruisers and bikes...

If it was very small, I suspect it was the gen 2 select not the gen 2 directional. The gen 2 select directional only use K band antenna. The gen 2 select however can use 2 ka band antenna's or a combination of 1 Ka band antenna and 1 K band antenna like the kustom radar units. Decatur has the smallest antenna I've ever seen to date and has also the smallest main counting unit in the market to date. In fact, I just tested a gen 2 and the speedtrack model lately if it will cause double bogey with escort's expert mode.

The gen 2 has the fastest acquisition target I've ever tested close to or the same as laser and is the narrowest beam pattern than the stalker dual and python's. I'm not sure if this has to do with the diameter of the radar antenna because it is truely the smallest antenna's I've ever seen.

Check out the patch antenna too and I don't know if you've seen one from genesis. It's the smallest antenna ever made for traffic radar.

OPP has used Genesis II since 1999. As times change OPP has just kept up with the times and when purchasing radar, just bought the most recent one. Started with Genesis II, then went to Genesis II Select, and in 2006 all purchased units have been Genesis II Select Directional. We have all 3 models operational in my office, all being "K" band.
