Exclusively during daytime, in so far as I know.
Typically, this will only happen for highly trafficked (and thus high-incident) areas, either during rush-hour or for holidays.
There will be white markings along the roadway - either through the roadway itself or on the shoulders - at quarter-mile intervals, for one mile (thus, four total).
They only need to clock you for one interval to pull you over and issue a citation, but typically, they like to make sure that the ticket sticks by having clocked you for at least two consecutive intervals. Thus, it's easy to just slow down to PSL/reasonable when you've passed (but are still within) the first interval, and continue at such reduced speeds until you're out of that mile stretch (after all, it's only a mile, and it won't be repeated for a few more miles downroad).
The markings are pretty obvious, particularly if you're an attentive driver.![]()
