    Default Cross Country Trip

I'm thinking about taking a cross country trip and was wondering what people do when they are driving through states that radar detectors are not legal in. I have a V1 and it's hardwired into my car... while not difficult to remove the detector itself (and even the remote display), is it legal to have the RD in the car? Can I just put it into the glove box, or can it not be within the driver's compartment at all? Trunk? Thanks for any information!

Radar Detectors are illegal to sell and use in Virginia. Being an out of state resident passing thru Virginia and having your RD in the trunk would be the best place for it.

Must be out of reach of the driver--like in the trunk. Anyway it will not be hot if a LEO requests to see it. ie: not hot=not in use.

Although.. I would run it anyway. Better safe than sorry. At ANY instant of KA, I would take it down.

These are the cases where the STi-R, 9500Ci and the Redline would work well.

You may want to get a CB as a countermeasure for all states, especially since you are likely to be running without your V1 in certain areas.

Are you heading to VA or DC?

I would potentially be spending a few months in Maryland, so right in that neck of the woods. After my last trip there (and seeing how everyone actually drives the speed limits) I may do better leaving my car at home and get stuck in a 4-cylinder rental car!
