Maggie Valley and Waynesville North Carolina run K band.

City of Asheville police mostly Ka with some K in older cars (usually the Crown Vics, the Chargers run Ka). A few run either VASCAR or TRACKER.

Also, in the cars that have upgraded to Ka radar the City of Asheville has sold or given the old K band equipment to the county. I've picked up a couple of Buncombe County Deputies running K band C/O moving on the highways.

City of Woodfin Ka and K. They love to sit on overpasses on I-26 or on side of road out of view on other side of a hill.

City of Weaverville Ka. Don't work I-26 much, work streets, school zones and area around public park at Lake Louise).

NCHP in Buncombe County (Asheville) mostly run 35.5 Ka. No X. Haven't picked up K in some time. Used to have a little 34.7 Genesis in some cars. But they prefer the Kustom Golden Eagle. Have backed off use of LIDAR and don't run it as much. They are running a lot of VASCAR or TRACKER. Look for the white stripes on the roads and the unmarked cars, sometimes Tahoes parked perpendicular to the flow of traffic. NCHP will sit on other side of overpass and clock you with stopwatch feature on Double Eagle. Sometimes will hit you with I/O as you go through overpass, but they prefer to clock you. Look for white lines, that's where they clock.

NCHP love to park around a curve or on the other side of an over pass and hit you with instant on. A lot of City cops park on overpasses too, but tend to run constant on, except for City of Asheville. They run some I/O and they are training on VASCAR.

NCHP on I-40 from Buncombe County to Tennessee Line run 35.5 Ka roving usually. They set up VASCAR traps near the I-40 weigh station at a turn around in the median in Buncombe County. Also, at turn around on i-40, Haywood County near TN line. Run mostly VASCAR on the state four lane roads in Haywood.

UPDATE: on 7/10/13 I observed an Asheville City police officer standing outside his car and painting cars with Lidar on 240 by pass at Montford Ave Exit. Don't know what type of Lidar he was using, but I know the NCHP uses ProLaser III. In the past I have seen the city police using Lidar from an overhead bridge on I-40.
