Default Speed Camera on I-95 in CT?

Last night coming home from RI I was stopped at around exit 22 in CT on 95SB. The LEO must have entered 95 just as I was going by the entrance ramp and he saw that I was traveling faster than the flow of traffic (I was doing low 70's in a 55). I saw him in the rear view 300 or so yards back and coming up fast so I moved to the center lane and traveled at 60ish till the lights went on. I pull over and he comes up, I already have my paperwork out, and he just goes starts saying that I was traveling well over the posted limit etc. He just tells me to slow down and then tells me that there are speed cameras on this section of 95. Now I drive 300-400 miles a week on 95 between Norwalk and RI and while there are radar generators I have never seen a camera or gotten a ticket from a speed camera. Did this guy just try to scare me or have they/are they installing speed cameras on 95? I would think that it would be difficult for speed cameras to work on a multi-lane hiway.

    Just curious.

By the way he did not write me up, not sure if it was the fact that I was in a well marked company car or he just did not get a chance to trail me for long enough....

    Cheers,
    Jim

Well, he may be bs'n you or they DID add speed cameras there. I would try to look at the latest news on speed enforcement for CT and see if there was a bill passed allowing speed cameras there.

During lunch I did a little looking around on the WEB and could not find anything saying that speed cameras are in use on 95 in CT. Looks like they tried a few years back but it was voted down. My company car has RI plates so I am thinking he was just trying to scare this "out of towner".

I assume your work van has commercial plates hence no radar detector in it? He might have hit you with a laser gun while he was on the ramp or something.

No, it is a Jetta Wagon with graphics on it, I am a sales guy for the company I work for. V1 is hardwired in and no laser alert. it is such a crowded radar environment all the way along 95 till you get to New Haven that unless I see KA it is hard to pick out what is real and what is not real. I am thinking since he did not say how fast I was going and did not write me up he was trying to pace me but I saw him too early.

I have always had a bit of a heavy right foot and have always driven a lot so I try to be very observant of things going on around me and that includes watching for LEO's, that became even more important 3 years ago when I took my current job and basically became a traveling sales guy racking up 40K a year in the company car....I need my license to work.

    Cheers,
    Jim

This site will help you out on state to state laws regarding speed/red light cameras.

States using red light and speed cameras

If you click on CT, you will see they do not allow red light or speed cameras.

    "Connecticut no state law"
    Automated enforcement laws

    Hope that helps.

I always laugh when people talk about speed cameras, let say they do start installing speed cameras on I 95 there is a thing call Photo shied (NOT THE SPRAY). So I really think it would not be a problem. Speed camera is something I really don't worry about for now.

I know in some states they do NOT allow covers over your license plate. In NYC you really don't suppose to have anything covering your plates, but think GOD i live in NYC. NYC cops have a lot more other things to worry about than to pull me over for a license plate cover.

If I go into another states and if it's illegal when the cops see that my plates say NY State they will say he is not form here so he doesn't know the law in our state.

Key is know what your doing when your driving, and what to do in what state.

Trooper is full of himself. They have cameras along 95 to see traffic flow (in addition to the radar units that monitor speed), but those are the crappiest quality cameras ever. They use it for traffic reports and the traffic advisories.
