Default NC drivers X band off or on and unmarked cars

I've been driving in NC with a V1 for about 2 months now. I turned pop off but left X on. I know where X false are where I normally drive but also travel to SC often and isn't easy to switch X off while driving. So my question is if you normally drive in NC do you run X on or off and in what area of NC.

I have not seen X used yet.

Also just noticed a couple unmarked cars I haven't seen before. They were older black suburban with tinted Windows and regular NC plate. No possible way to tell its a cop unless his lights are on. Any other non standard cars to look out for?

Very useful website made by one of the mods on here --->

    http://www.patzcatz.com/radarbands.html

"North Carolina (thanks 379PETE, 9500ier, bart99gt, bcorby, bradthemad, BusyBadger, cooljay, Jon_Doh, NiTrO bOiE, Orbital75, SIX, StlouisX50) top

Asheville: K, Ka, Lidar (Pro Laser III I believe) was just added by NCHP. NCHP also run a great deal of VASCAR and its clone, Tracker. X band is being phased out but you will still find it in use in smaller municipalities and a few state trooper's cars that use short range instant on.
    Banner Elk: K
    Blowing Rock: K
Blue Ridge Parkway (National Park Service): K, Ka (Kustom Talon)
    Boone: K, Ka (Kustom Talon)
Cabarrus County (Cabarrus County): K ( Golden Eagles ) Sheriff / City, KA ( STALKER dual ) City
    Cashiers: K
Charlotte (Mecklenburg County): CMPD K only (not Ka), VASCAR (used by NCSHP) (updated 08/17/2010)
    Cherryville: X, K, Ka
Chimney Rock (Rutherford County): K (updated 06/21/2010)
CMPD (Cabarrus County): KA ( STALKER dual / same lane / same direction RADAR )
Dummies: On I-95 and I-40 there are many. I-95, x175, x145, x127. x93, and X193 in SC (I think this one is an alarm on K band). Those are just a few.
    Goldsboro: K, KA
Kitty Hawk (Dare County): Ka-band (updated 06/20/2010)
Lake Lure (Rutherford County): Ka (updated 06/21/2010)
    Macon County: K
Maggie Valley: radar. Not sure what band
    Mt. Olive: K, KA
NC State HP: X,K,KA front and rear (new) (very few X bands out there, but there surely is some)
NCDOT (Merged with NCSHP two years ago: KA front & rear-- all new cars including Tahoes, labled "commercial enforcement")
NCSHP: X, Ka 35.5 in cruisers, 34.7 on motorcycles, also using X-band K-55s as drones in construction sites, Laser ( Pro Laser III )
    Old Fort: K
    Raleigh: K, KA
    Shelby (Cleveland County): Ka
    Staunton: Laser (PL III)
UNCC (Mecklenburg County): Ka 35.5 Front and Rear
Wilmington: (WPD, Sheriff, NCHP) -- Ka (65&#37, K (34&#37, X (1&#37 Confimed Laser gun Stalker LZ1. WPD only-- Stalker LZ1, Ka. UNC-Wilmington Campus police-- only constant on K band as of Dec. 2007."

X is still a potential threat in your state. Not sure about the unmarked cars. Good luck!

To shut off X-band it is the first programming option in the menu. Can't miss it.

I can see myself easily forgetting to turn it back on when I cross back into NC that I'd rather leave it on if I need to

I leave my V1 set to X/K/KA all on for the exact same reason.

X is alive and well as of 2010 the last time I was down there. Leave it on.

I know this is an old thread...but since I live in NC (eastern) and neighbor is a LEO, thought this may help. All unmarked state cars have regular plates, he just got a new unmarked Charger, cant tell its a cop car until you are right beside him. Has front and rear mounted Golden Eye Radar. Not sure if that is X, K or what.

No problem not an old thread anyways. Thanks for the info. I always slow when I see a Charger until I confirm its not a LEO.

I hardly see anyone using X band. But, the dinky little town I live in got radar last year. They started off with X band. This year they have moved up to Ka 35.5. The problem is it's right on the highway. So, if you were passing through, you may get snagged if you had it turned off. It sucks because I would love turning that band off.
