    Default NYPD question

    Hey all,

The other day I noticed an NYPD squad car with 2 cylinders on the roof of the car, I thought to myself that it couldn't be radar but is it possible? The were mounted on the sides of the roof (horizontally like a radar unit would be mounted inside a car), does anyone know what kind of the device this is?

    -Thanks

ALPR? There's a few threads on here about them, with pictures included...IIRC, one even has a picture of a NYPD car in it.

Search for things like "license plate recognition", "alpr", "lpr"...things like that.
