I've been riding with a guy who runs an Autocom Super Pro AVi and has a Valentine hooked into it. He also uses the setup for a Kenwood bike-bike radio and a GPS. This setup seems to work the best and can be used with any high end radar detector. You get all the functionality of the high end radar detector as well as audio alerts (which are the best).
I agree that the Whistler is kinda pointless! Problem is finding a space to mount the radar detector on a tight 600cc sports bike.

I currently use an 8500 on my bike with the Vizalert. My only problem is that I sometimes cant see the alert during the day because of the frames of my sunglasses. Im going to have to experiment with some different positions for it. Im probably going to start using my V1 on my bike, as it stomps my 8500 on all bands. Plus I still want some kind of audio alert. The Vizalert silences the 8500, while i believe the V1 will still have audio while using the Vizalert.

As for mounting your detector, I purchased my mount from Radar Detectors and Jammers - Reviews & Shopping at RadarBusters.com . you will have to look for the specific mount for your bike. Here are a few pics of mine prior to my Vizalert install.

Nice work! A good friend of mine rides the same bike, same year. Good choice.

Ill stick w/ my autocom set up and the valentine headphone output !
I use the Vizalert but I but the box in my top jacket pocket ... works very nicely and not as inconvenient as you might think.

It also is sensitive to lite levels so it dims at night ... I'll check in a mirror to see how much lite it throws on my face.

The nice thing about it is I can wear earplugs which helps reduce fatigue on long rides and I have x band enabled since the visual alerts arent as annoying a the thing screaming in my ear. I was skeptical about visual alerts in general but I'm sold on this one.

I have had my Sti for about a year now,I had a box fabricated, almost like Truthalive, and mounted in the same spot,I put a vent cover from a Lexus on the front on the box to make it look like a oil cooler, its water proof also!

I started with audio, but it became annoying after a few hours of riding, but I knew what was coming,I now use Vizalert and I am not sold on it,works great
but I am concerned over the nice bright LED lights reflection on my face in the night, and even during the day under a tinted visor

What I would like to know is there any decent options in cordless audio out there, that anyone here uses, within a reasonable price!

PM me for a pic on my set-up

for my installation i put a little piece off undevelopped film (35 mm) kodac over the 6 led (vizalert) and in day time its bright enough to see the the alert and night time dosen't look like a christmas tree flashing light hehehe
i am pretty happy off it.I was intercept by a police car he told me I was speeding really?? I know he didn't use is radar on that one.and give me back my registration ,never ask me why I ve got this thing on the side of my helmet .I also always put a map over my detector til a inche from the end off it .so far it's pay more than 5 time .and if someone still dont believe about a lazer detection actually I detected a lazer on a reflection of a car ,I was driving to the north ,Leo doing lazer operation in opposite direction and I've got the the red light in my vizalert only once then it was about a mile away .so yeah very happy .
PS I'am french so maybe my english suck's a bit

If an officer asks what that (the outside of the helmet Vizalert) is, you can always casually say its your Bluetooth for your cell phone. It would sound believable to me.
