DUQUOIN — Illinois State Police District 13 Commander Capt. Michael Irwin has announced several initiatives that will be conducted in Williamson County for the month of April.

The Speed Patrols Enforcing and Educating Drivers will target Interstate 57, Route 13 and Route 37.

Troopers will concentrate on speeding violation and occupant restraint violations, as well as other traffic violations that are contributing causes of crashes. Troopers will enforce speeding laws to ensure drivers and their passengers arrive safe and alive.

District 13 troopers will also work in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies to conduct Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement patrols. A.C.E. patrols allow the State Police to target an area with saturation patrols that focus on preventing, detecting and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol and other drugs.

All of these target measures are designed to reduce fatal and personal injury accidents.
