CHP plans special crackdown Tuesday on failure to use seat belts

The California Highway Patrol says its officers will be looking especially closely Tuesday for people who aren't wearing seat belts while riding in a vehicle.



The CHP said officers, on overtime paid for by a state grant, will be looking especially for seat belt and child safety restraint violations.
The grant is from the state's Office of Traffic Safety. It said seat belt use in California is at a record 95.7 percent but it wants to raise it higher.
Last yar the CHP said it issued 204,187 tickets for seat belt violations — to both drivers and passengers — and another 17,076 for child safety seat violations.
