PATROLS: Extra officers on Valley roads this Saturday By Herald staff Eleven law enforcement agencies will be working together this Saturday in to reduce speed-related collisions in Yakima County. Extra law enforcement officers will work at specific locations where speeding is most common. This Saturday speed patrols will take place on Highway 97 and surrounding roads and cities. The patrols will begin at 10 a.m. Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) and Canine units will also be working the speed patrols. The enforcement program, X52 (Extra Patrols Every Week), is administered statewide through a partnership with 25 community traffic safety task forces who will be promoting it at the local level to reach all of the state’s drivers. The goal of the X52 project is to reduce serious injuries and deaths that occur on Washington’s roadways because of impaired drivers and speeders. Participating agencies: Selah Police Department, Moxee Police Department Sunnyside Police Department, Tieton Police Department, Toppenish Police Department, Union Gap Police Department, Wapato Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Yakima Police Department, Yakima County Sheriffs Office & Klickitat Sheriff’s Office.
