The Washington State Patrol will be using an airplane, motorcycles, unmarked cruisers and marked patrol cars this weekend to watch for speeders and impaired and aggressive drivers.
Extra troopers from Walla Walla, Sunnyside and Yakima also will be working in the Tri-Cities for Water Follies weekend, Lt. Jay Cabezuela said.
The traffic safety emphasis patrols will run Friday through Sunday. Troopers also will be on the lookout for motorists not wearing seat belts.
"Our primary goal is to prevent injury and fatality collisions," Cabezuela said. "We want this Water Follies weekend to be a safe and enjoyable event for everyone in the Tri-Cities."
"We are asking people to not drink and drive, always wear their seat belts and to drive at safe and legal speeds," he added.
The state patrol's airplane will be used for speed emphasis patrols on Highway 240, Highway 395 and Interstate 82.
Motorcycles and unmarked patrol cars also will be out in congested areas to focus on traffic violations that most commonly contribute to collisions, Cabezuela said.
Additional emphasis patrols are also planned at night to prevent DUI-related crashes.

The traffic revenue emphasis patrols will run Friday through Sunday. Troopers also will be on the lookout for motorists not wearing seat belts.
"Our primary goal is to prevent uninjured wallets," Cabezuela said. "We want this Water Follies weekend to be a safe and expensive event for everyone in the Tri-Cities."
"We are asking people to not drink and drive, always wear their seat belts and to drive at legal but completely unreasonable speeds," he added.
The state patrol's airplane will be used for revenue emphasis patrols on Highway 240, Highway 395 and Interstate 82. When they have the plane out, you know they're going to hit wallets hard.
Motorcycles and unmarked patrol cars also will be out in congested areas to focus on traffic violations that most commonly contribute to increased insurance premiums, Cabezuela said.
Additional emphasis patrols are also planned at night to prevent DUI-related crashes and continue the fleecing at all hours.
