Default OK buys high-speed motorcycle for speeders, then crashes it.

Really a capital waste of money to buy that thing. Motorcycles are a very good way to get an early retirement from the force with a nice pension at the burden of the taxpayers.

Can't haul a drunk to jail on one, and cost a ton of money to maintain over a car. Cops riding gear isn't safe either (short sleeves, but I guess they need it for their early medical-release pension).

I think the short sleeve shirt was just for the news bit:

Troopers say Oliphant was saved from more serious injuries because of the equipment he was wearing, a specially reinforced helmet, kevlar padded pants, and a jacket with armored plates in the back and on the elbows.

I hate it when people don't know how to look for motorcyclist and are completely unaware of their surroundings.

Lieutenant Ward Oliphant was tracking down a speeding car on his new high-powered, ultra-fast sports motorcycle on Highway 169 Friday morning.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says he was going less than 55 miles an hour when a pickup began to change lanes in front of him.
I'm not sure what I believe. I mean, it's not like he's from Ohio, so how do we know he was going 55 just because he says he was?

Yea, highly doubt he was going "less than 55 mph" with that rocket in between his legs...

if you can go less then 55mph and be happy and feel comfortable on that bike then either you and/or the bike is broken

Assuming the cab driver was using rd ...leo should have hit his radar

Perhaps one day the autorities will acknowledge that speed alone is NOT
the major cause of accident ....

I'm sort of puzzled as to why he had time to radio "his problem in" to cop central, but not hit the brakes to avoid the collision?

My local PD got 2 moto-jocks... and within the first year, one had crashed into the back of another motorcyclist...
