    Default TX - Speed Kills

    6/17/2010
    POLICE DEPARTMENT
    FORT WORTH, TX -
    PRESS RELEASE:

    Fatality Collision:
10500 South Frwy: On Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at approximately 8:15 p.m. officers were summoned to this location in reference to a major accident. Traffic Investigators also responding to the scene reconstructed the accident and determined the following. The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a black 1993 Acura was traveling southbound on 10500 South Frwy at a high rate of speed. Witnesses stated that the Acura was zipping in and out of traffic, crossing from the far outside lane to the inside shoulder and striking the concrete barrier. The Acura slid on top of the concrete barrier for approximately forty yards until it struck a light pole, causing the Acura to split in two. The rear portion of the Acura remained at the light pole and exploded into flames. The front portion of the Acura continued southbound crossing all lanes of traffic coming to a stop in the right lane upside down. The three occupants of the front portion were transported to local hospitals. The right back passenger (female) was trapped in the back portion and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

There were a total of four passengers (two males and two females) in the vehicle ranging in ages seventeen to early twenties. The three passengers in the front portion of the Acura are now believed to be in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle was a male; based on the preliminary investigation and witness accounts, the driver could face a possible charge of Criminal Negligent Homicide, pending the outcome of the investigation. However, this investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.

The Traffic Investigation Unit is assigned this case for investigative purposes. Referenced report number is 10-63633.

More like idiots kill. The zipping in and out tells me there must have been a heavy dose of traffic on the freeway. If that were the case, then the driver shouldn't have been speeding in the first place.

I'm trying to figure out how they got three adults in the front seat of an Acura.

    Must have been Asians.

maybe when the vehicle hit the concrete barrier, the impact cause one of the passenger in the back to fly into the front??? you know, there is not many passenger in the back who wears seatbelt.

Quite possible. I've run on more than a few cars that were cut in half, and strange things happen. Once, we were there for five minutes before we realised there was a second person in the car. She had been thrown so hard to the floorboard that she was stuffed out of sight under the dash, unconscious.

Idiots kill, maybe we were lucky and the Darwin effect saved us here. Hopefully they had not yet reproduced!

I've never had to weave through traffic or pass on the shoulder to speed. I bet you could do that under the speed limit in traffic and crash.

I've never gotten a ticket when I wasn't either alone on the road or cruising in the right lane not even passing anyone...

Speed doesn't kill, it's the sudden deceleration at the end that does. Greater speed increases the rate of that sudden deceleration, so that is why people argue that "speed kills".

If you're not an idiot and aren't driving in such a way that you wind up experiencing that sudden deceleration, guess what, speed doesn't kill!! The first rule of driving at ANY speed is not to drive toward stationary objects that are going to cause you to decelerate suddenly.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?
