10500 South Frwy: On Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at approximately 8:15 p.m. officers were summoned to this location in reference to a major accident. Traffic Investigators also responding to the scene reconstructed the accident and determined the following. The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a black 1993 Acura was traveling southbound on 10500 South Frwy at a high rate of speed. Witnesses stated that the Acura was zipping in and out of traffic, crossing from the far outside lane to the inside shoulder and striking the concrete barrier. The three occupants of the front portion were transported to local hospitals. The right back passenger (female) was trapped in the back portion and was pronounced deceased on the scene.
There were a total of four passengers (two males and two females) in the vehicle ranging in ages seventeen to early twenties. The three passengers in the front portion of the Acura are now believed to be in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle was a male; based on the preliminary investigation and witness accounts, the driver could face a possible charge of Criminal Negligent Homicide, pending the outcome of the investigation. However, this investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.
