    For the states I've lived in, this has been the case for many moons. For those states, a law enforcement officer has the entire state as their jurisdiction. It's just that their regular workloads keep them close to their areas.

    On the AZ/UT line, the two states have agreements where many officers in each state in that area have jurisdiction to cross the border for duties.

    I've always found this to be the case as well... I'm surprised that a lot of people don't realize that a statewide officer would have statewide jurisdiction, lol.

    Well according to the Department of Public Safety in Missouri Officers are not supposed to. However no matter what they say, Highway Patrol or State Police will go where they want. I have heard that in Illinois municipal officers can work in other areas of the state as long as they do not have a policy against the out of city boundary enforcement
