First of all there is the "speed on green" ticket which you need to know the speed limit to slow down to. Next there is the infamous "stale green light". This light could change from yellow and red with no warning. The line you have to cross before the light turns red may is at the crosswalk and may as well be on the other side of the intersection as it is so far out in the intersection. The cameras are designed to catch those who cross this line 1 millisecond after the light turns green so as to maximize revenue. Cities have been known to shorten the yellow light timing so as to generate more revenue even though studies have shown that longer yellows=less accidents. Knowing exactly where the red light cameras are is crucial to avoid the revenue generation traps. No one here is advocating running red lights mid-cycle, that is dangerous as heck. We just want to know where they are to avoid the obvious revenue generating red lights are so as to avoid fines. And hey, if we know where the cams are, we sure aren't going to run the lights at those intersections so why the concern?
