V1 Vrs Arizona low powered k-band photo DPS units

I decided to try my V1 mounted vertical against the low powered k-band photo radar DPS units across Arizona on my way across the I-10. In past testing mounted normal (horizonal) on the dash I was getting 2-3 seconds average before ramping up next to the DPS unit. In a vertical mounted position I am getting much better distance at least 50% improvement at an estimated 5-7 seconds. Any one else give this a try? I had 5 encounters coming home and all were a noticably longer alert than mounted horizontally.

That pretty much confirms what i am finding.
Just be careful on "normal" k band, as you may lose quite a bit of distance in some cases.

I have a low power k band unit that i can do horizontal and vertical polarization and i can see the differences in signal strength on most detectors when shooting it one way or the other.

So those are vertically polorized like most k-band speed signs? I was figuring that had to be the case. I have noticed good performance mounted vertical, with just slight performance loss at more extreme off axis angles.

The vans are horizontally polarized since they use the low powered Euro guns.

Most of the speed signs here seem to be vertically polarized. thus, with a V1 i can lose up to .5 mile of warning on a constant speed sigh by flipping the v1 on its side.

How does the vertical mount do against other k band sources, and against ka?

still working on getting to more extensive ka testing on it.

I really dont notice any differance in performance against LEO's on k or ka when there is light traffic. Where I have found better performance against LEO's is when there are alot of vehicles and trucks in front of me, since I had it mounted to the far left side on the A pillar, it looks down the center line and sees between the traffic really well. It appears to perform the same in heavy traffic mounted there as it does in the center of the dash in light traffic conditions. I also noticed the V1 arrows work better there and it picks up from the rear alot better (able to see down the side of the trailer).

I have noticed lately that a lot of the vans are using higher power units. I am now getting .5 miles warning (GX-65) when months ago it was only about 300 feet. Maybe I just got lucky lately and hit only the higher powered ones.

Maybe they want to pick off cars further back, thus the possible change, which works well for us.

I've yet to see a DPS van with high power, but i've come across Scottsdale higher powered ka, and somewhere, either Tempe or Mesa that had a higher powered k band van.

The last 2 high powered ones I saw were on the way to lake pleasant, on Carefree Hwy. About 1/2 mile warning and its only a 1 lane each way hwy, and 45 mph PSL.
Also one in Tempe on Broadway east side of the I-10 curve, noticed the radar was mounted on the bumper, not on top.....at least 600-700 ft warning.

I was in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago and had plenty of warning on my V1 against the vans. I was amazed as I was under the impression I would get very little warning. V1 is mounted on my motorcycle on top of a tank bag.
