How far out of tune have you seen police KA radar?
I'm talking about a unit being operated by a cop that you got a reading on from your detector. I know detectors may not be 100% accurate as far as the readout btw, but just curious as to what variance you guys have seen. I'm obviously talking about those with detectors that can display the frequency.
I had posted a while back that I got an alert that showed up as 33.715 on a Redline, but never saw a cop and couldn't determine the source There were some comments that this was well outside the norm for 33.8, and some suggested that it was probably from a non-police source (maybe a satellite receiver on a semi truck).
Just wondering how much variance can be expected on 33.8, 34.7, 35.5 in the real world.
Re: How far out of tune have you seen police KA radar?
Normal variation would be +/- 100 MHz, so 33.7-33.9, 34.6-34.8, and 35.4-35.5 are within spec.
The 33.715 could have been an out of tune MPH gun, or Cobra leakage (which often appears in the 33.6 neighborhood).
That said, I have a Stalker ATR (last certified in 2004 I believe) which shows up as 34.8xx on my Belscorts. What's funny is the earliest ATRs actually used 34.9 and then they went to 34.7, and mine is exactly in between. Makes it hard to know if mine's an older 34.9 or newer 34.7 model.
Re: How far out of tune have you seen police KA radar?
One of the guys here in the GA testing group had a Stalker Ka gun that was recently calibrated and reads 35.2 on the STi-R and 9500ci!!
When I had segments turn on the STi-R this gun was invisible!!!!
Re: How far out of tune have you seen police KA radar?
I've seen CHP Stalker frequencies as high as 34.775 GHz.
Re: How far out of tune have you seen police KA radar?
The Village/Police State of Kenmore uses Stalker, and I have seen one gun as high as 35.0 Ghz there.
Re: How far out of tune have you seen police KA radar?
There was a LEO around here that used to run with a Stalker that showed up at 34.4 (or was it 34.2?). Might have been an older Stalker (didn't they have the ones that went that low?)
Re: How far out of tune have you seen police KA radar?
34.5
I've also seen officers running both rear and front radar where it is like 34.701 and 34.702 like dead accurate.
Re: How far out of tune have you seen police KA radar?
I saw 34.5 on my Redline this morning. I don't know if it was a Stalker or a Cobra though...

I've had 33.7 cobras before, more than once. Virtually all LEO Ka's I've seen were +/- 0.050, but as others mentioned there's no limit on out-of-tune-ness :D
Re: How far out of tune have you seen police KA radar?
One thing I've been meaning to ask....
There is a 34.1 around here in columbia. I've never seen the officer but I've also gotten the reading in several different locations. Any ideas?
