Hey guys, I just got a new job so I have not had much time to edit the wiki with new info.
This saturday I am going to try and knock lots of new stuff :D

I just added the Whistler 1730 and 1732. I will add the features within the next few days, I don't have the time today.

Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
I published four articles on the current Beltronics Vector line. I was surprised how much work it was, but take a look. I wasn't able to locate definitive dates on when each model was introduced, but found some approximate times of their press releases by Googling articles by Amy Gilroy.
I tried to keep the styling in line with the V1 article which I thought looked good and just reworked his table to fit the Vector articles.
For performance-related items, I combined testing where the Vectors competed with today's detectors and calculated out an average percentile. Y'know, like when the school sends home testing for your kids type thing. I estimate the Vector to perform in the 65th percentile with the 9500ci/V1 in the 95+ percentile.
For falsing performance, there's not a lot of data out there. Lot's of anecdotes, but the two aren't the same. I thought Roy had a test done on falsing somewhere, but I didn't see it.

The wiki has been down for a few days, anyone know why?

Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
I added a couple pages at the bottom that I thought a n00b should find useful. As I am a n00b and have learned a few things myself in the hours I've spent here. :D
I will fill out more as much as I can when I have a little more time this evening. Wanted to just jot in a few ideas.
Added the "Terminology" page, and the "Sources of Falses." I'll put in what I know, but I'm sure people who are more versed would probably chime in as well. Hence the spirit of the Wiki.

Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
Good idea.
I would like to make a suggestion; When some things have certain data like prices, it should include type of currency and dates. Like in this example, is it MSRP, in what year, what currency is being quoted?

Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
Hi, I have a question about the wiki.
Someone copied my sticky "Radar Bands By Town" info into the wiki. I update the sticky once in a while using a database I developed. Looks like the wiki has to be edited by sub-entries (e.g. each town has to be edited individually). Is there a way to bulk load/reload an entire wiki category, so I can refresh the wiki when I refresh the sticky?
I'm a computer geek and a software developer, but a total noob when it comes to wiki maintenance. ;)
EDIT: Looks like I can edit the whole shebang by hitting the "Edit" link at the top of the page. I'll just have to add code to my database to create the page in the wiki-format.

I am glad you don't mind :-) Just for the reference, here's the link.

I wouldn't do exactly that, because people started updating it directly, and if you overwrite it with the generated version, the changes will be lost... Please note anonymous changes in the history:

I've updated the wiki with your changes from 10/10.
What I did, is compared the previous version of the forum entry with the new one, and applied the changes. This is quite similar to merge in version-tracking systems.

Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
Interesting. Maybe I should just specify that updates be made in the wiki, and then I'll just copy the wiki to the sticky instead of the other way around...
Or specify that wiki updates also be posted in the sticky, so I can keep my database up to date, which I use to update the sticky. Or add code to my database so I can bring the wiki updates into the DB, along with sticky posts, and then re-output the wiki and the sticky with all the changes in place. Keeping things in sync...
BTW, what did you use to convert the sticky to the wiki? Some kind of converter, or did you do it by hand?

Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
this is starting to look great. thanks for the hard work.

I'd go this route. Usually it takes less effort to update static/one maintaner content from collaborative, than the other way around.
I can easily revert the script to generate forum format from the Wiki. And if you want just the differences from a previous revision of your sticky instead of the full page, that wouldn't take much time to implement either.

Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
Our main page got re-written. Somebody put a bunch of links to spam-infested web sites. I erased their crap and just put two lines, but we'll need to rebuild the main menu again.

I guess registration with confirmed e-mail and captcha should be required...
-
Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
Reverted to the last known good revision, but something should be done about the registration...
P.S. Meanwhile I am "watching" the page (rightmost link on the top of the page) to receive notifications whenever it's changed, but it is not a long term solution by any means.

Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
I did some google searches, & logged in w/ the main admin account and I don't see an option to force the user to register before making changes...
If someone knows what they are doing I'll be glad to hand over the admin information so things can get done correctly.

Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
Yeah, it's either a bot or a persistent spammer. I dumped the virus-invested links just the other day and the same garbage links came right back. Looking at the history, I'm thinking a bot as it's getting hit many times a day.

Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
So far, all the attacks have come from the same IP address:194.165.42.59
The range whois info is:
194.165.42.0 - 194.165.42.255
Nashirnet IPv4 Network
Khalid Alhalwan
National Computer Systems
+96614657579
info@nashirnet.biz
Translated version of http://nashirnet.biz/
It appears our Wiki admin can go to:
List of blocked IP addresses and usernames - RadarDetector.net Wiki
On that page, the IP address can be blocked. It's just a temp fix depending on how persistent the spammer is.
Further info:
Manual:Block and unblock - MediaWiki
Help:Blocking users - MediaWiki
Other ideas:
* Admin grants Wiki contributors upon request
* a captcha
* Cease & Desist letter to spammer (given it's intl, probably not)
* DDOS their IP range (ok...maybe not...just a thought)

Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
to hell w/ just the wiki we'll blacklist the IP from everything on the server.
-
Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
locked it down to where you have to be registered to post. we'll try this route for a week, and if the bot is still getting in we can make it to where you have to be an admin of the wiki.

Re: RadarDetector.net wiki created! Help us add content!
Okay, what's the deal on this thing? Does anyone have access to get it going, or is it dead and gone? We need a Wiki or FAQ source for detector info. I just wanna know if we can revive this, or if we need to start over.
