Just give the RLC manufacturers time to build their lobby in Florida. If you travel any having this data will be invaluable.
You got a lot of old people who rely on automatic door openers there. For the extra few bucks spent, at least you won't have to mark out all the radar operated door closers.
And like above, if you ever travel to a new location, you don't know what kind of surprises lurk.
And you can update the firmware at home on the ix. :)

im 16 and lazy. so i dont usually travel by car. i usually travel by plane if im going any considerable distance. so the camreas dont matter to me. but what im asking is if there are any other advantages to the ix than the i?
Then why do you need any detector?
You gonna be lazy and 16 forever?
ix is for lazy people so get that one.
I is Beta 1
IX is Beta 9
Are you crazy? Where in Florida do you live? In Orlando we're surrounded by them and they're growing at a really fast rate. Regardless, why wouldn't you buy the latest product when it isn't that much more? The resale value alone will compensate for the difference you'll be paying.
The ix will have a better mark location radius for speed traps plus its Blue.:)
I believe some have stated there is a city no X feature as well? Plus the unit can be updated if and when needed. the extra $50 is worth it, if not just to have the newest unit available.
well i just got a red 9500i for $325 on ebay. So I'm just going to stick with that one for a little bit and then I'll upgrade
how much is the upgrade if i send it to escort?
130 dollars, you are paying for your shipping there, they will pay for the shipping back to you.
Did you ever turn X band and POP off on your V1? What kind of falses did you get(XbandKband etc). Did you play with settings much or not?
What does that have to do with anything they are talking about? lol
He stated in his first post the V1 had to many falses. So I was questioning him on if he ever toyed with the settings. I'm just inquiring for my own research. I don't own a V1 so I'm not a Zombie coming in here to say WELL YOu should of done this or thaT! I was just asking...Comprende?
^ That's a difference of opinion/preference, truly.
Remember that the stated mission of the V1 is total situational awareness.
In its raw form, it simply alerts to EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING, and allows the end-user, the driver, to be the final filter.
In your case, 335, you're simply not willing to be the final filter - and there's nothing wrong with that.
But there is really no "fault" here to be had, certainly not with the V1.
Instead, it is simply a mismatch of your preferences with the capabilities of the device, that's all.
:)
I've been a V1 user for 13 years, but getting ready to order the 9500ix for that very reason you mentioned. In town my V1 is useless, end up shutting it off, and sometimes forget to turn it on when on the highway. Going to work, as soon as I past check point Charlie (I work at a nuke plant) I have to shut the V1 off, mind you I'm at 20 mph or less at that point. I will miss the arrows, but with red light and speed camera alerts, the 9500 ix will more than make up for it. Besides, I can always use the V1 for my three trips to New England each year (I live in New Jersey).
^ :)
Just be sure you use your V1 enough, in the meantime, that you don't lose your "bond" with it. :)
"Train as you fight, and fight as you train." I'm a firm believer in that - and one of the reasons why I have not pursued a "dual detector" (not as in both at the same time, but rather, one for city use, one for open highway) is because I know that, in living for 99% of my actual driving-time (and nearly 90% of driven miles) with the 9500i, that I would not be well "in-tune" with the V1's alerts and behavior, to make best-use out of it.
Be sure you maintain good enough of a tie with your V1, to make best use of it on the open highway. :)
That's all fine and dandy, but that V1 mission statement is far overdue. I don't know anyone who spent $400+ on something to detect microwaves and door sensors. The reason why we invest in these RDs is to detect traffic patrol radar and avoid a more costly consequence. Any radar detector that filters out the unecessary junk definetely takes the cake.
^ I'm all for filtering, don't get me wrong. ;) This is, admittedly, the reason why I have been a user of Escort products since 1997/8.
The problem is that filtering - when it is dependent on "A/I," if you will - is never 100% accurate.
Yes, I do believe in TrueLock. I've seen it work, many times.
But on those times when I do drive by a patrol in that area, I also cannot be 100% certain that they are not operating RADAR.
There's always room for doubt.
With the V1, in that it can, if you choose to, allow it to alert indiscriminately to each and every signal, *YOU* become the final filter, and then the responsibility of acting/reacting to such alerts becomes solely your responsibility.
In the areas which I drive through, this would equate to my knowing that there's 2 X-band door-openers and 2 k-band openers in this or that particular area, looking down at the alert counters, and knowing that "everything's all clear," versus a day when I might look over and say "uh-oh, that's a third k-band signal, that's not right.
But alas, given my physical location, my daily routes of travel, and the demands of my passengers (and even, at times, myself), I can't put up with such inputs, and I thus rely on technology to be the filter, for the sake of a quieter and more civilized ride.
But make no mistake, in depending on this technology, I well know that it is opening a chink in the armor.
There is a time and a place (and a user) for the out-of-the-box, unadulterated, filter-free V1.
It's all about end-user preferences.
The tools are there. Neither is necessarily "faulty." Both simply have their shortcomings.
It's simply the bad pairing of the detector to the user that becomes the true fault.
I am now 100% convinced that Escort does a better job of filtering than I do. It's on the job every second while in operation, while I tend to be complacent at times. Add in the factor that my bogey counter is not at all reliable and I tend to press the mute button too much, Truelock becomes a no brainer.
^ We're all human. :)
Yes, occasionally, I ride the FailBus, too. :o:p
And as many of our fellow brothers' confessions have shown, this is all too possible, no matter what the detector used.
But yes, growing complacent with the V1 is potentially the BIGGEST red-flag that anyone can throw. It's a definite way direct to a ticket.
Still, I don't really consider this a fault of the detector - but rather, the end user.
It would be, on my scale of things, akin to ignoring CJR's "Risk Scenarios," for usage of TrueLock.
^ I think that's a different way of looking at it.....or rather, that it requires fundamentally different thinking, when you're using an "instrument of war" like the V1, instead.
I think that with the V1, you can't really say it's "crying wolf." It's simply reporting all that it sees (or thinks it sees).
It's not really lying to you - it's just flooding you with information.
And as the end gatekeeper, you've got to make the proper tactical assessments.
Florida Red Light Cameras Map:driver:
Well, looks like there are RLC's in Florida, though it depends on your area... great site BPFLOYD. The fact is: They are becoming more and more common (like laser) as time goes on.
I'm 17 and have the 9500ix. You'll like the 9500i. It is a quality radar detector with excellent sensitivity and minimal falses. :)
I have been considering a better more potent radar detector than the RX65, I thought the new GX65 would be the way to go. The more posts I read , I'm think'in that the 9500ix would be the way to go.
Whistler1:D
Well the GX65 is not the way to go for a GPS enabled detector because the reason I have stated many times and recently has been proven. Though Beltronics and Escort are the same company Beltronics is not up to date with everything. Escort is a much better company in terms of Customer service, Reliability, Products, Updates (Key), speedyness (with everything even emails), etc.
Beltronics just falls behind, I knew this would happen and it is much apperent with the GX65.
But whistler, what do you mean by a more potent radar detector. Your not going to get more performance, and all you'll be purchasing is the GPS capabilites. Which are worth it but not when you have a RX-65 and your not getting any other benifits.
Honestly, save up for a good Laser Jammer or what I would do get the 9500ci. Honestly Im having more and more faith in the 9500ci. I reccommend it to anybody now because its everything that you possibly could want in a detector.
Every time I see a video that if it wasn't for the sensitivity of the ci the person would have gotten a ticket it makes me more and more a firm believer in it. Yes you don't have arrows but w/e, I'd much rather be saved from an I/O attack than have arrows.
And the 9500ci and STI-R are the only detectors that I feel can give you the closest to 100% reliabilty in all situations.
I mean think about it, all the detectors currently besides the STI and CI are out-of-date, the Radar Manufacture's and Law Enforcement officers have caught up with us. Especially with the use of I/O and the use of the Kustom Golden Eagle 35.5 radar band that utilizes the narrow radar beam and the new low powered 34.7 Stalker. 35.5 utilized with CHP off-ramp tactic is deadly straight deadly and the V1 is the only handheld that can be even close to some protection and in some situations your looking at a 1-2 second alert maybe.
The detectors need more raw detection but is not possible because it will be like the Valentine 1 but worse in the city. Escorts GPS technology fixed this and is using it pretty damn well.
^ +1.
I'd once e-mailed a reference from Photoenforced over to Ally (at Cheetah/Trinity) - turns out that it (the Photoenforced data)was very out-dated.
true. since owning a V1 during my 30day trial I can confirm the chatter can make you oblivious at times. especially if you're using a muted volume.
I love both detectors though for their own reasons, but this post is making pushing me back towards the Escort side. I cant decide!
