Nice matrix. It is a MOFO to decide between these two. Regardless of what V1 zombies say, the 9500ix has some bad a$$ features and is good at picking up "most" radar. It's a Cadillac compared to a hoopty in terms of convenience/technology.
Ditto on Escort fanboys, Escort has some problems with QT and truelock. Truelock can be managed with some common sense. QT can not, no way around it. Sucks it won't pick it up.
We will benefit when patents run out so they can combine the best of both to make the ultimate RD.
Folks the difference is: the v1 does everything it was intended to do well, the 9500 does not.
They are pretty close.
But depending on what features are important to you, you could set the weights for either detector to win.
Couple things I've learned with the V1 worth mentioning.
You could run the V1 with NO AUDIBLE ALERT and be fine. The BIG FAT, Bright Red Arrows catch your eyes. Where you have to depend on the Audio on the IX because the changes in display are too subtle. This makes the V1 extremely quiet. I don't have it all the way down but I have the "Mute Level" almost all the way down and the automute features on (every one I think). And main volume fairly low. V1 reminds me of the original Escort/Passport with the bright yellow light. Which so happens to be designed by the same guy.
And since the arrows tell you where the radar is you can quickly dismiss it when you know you just passed a false with no LEO.
Where with the IX, is he coming at you, is he coming from behind. You can relax much sooner with the arrows. I'm amazed how well it receives in the rear.
Leaning towards a V1 for me (will keep first 9500ix for my wife though).
But still have more testing to do. And hopefully GOL results will be up soon.
False alerts are the Achilles heal of the V1. If we were machines it wouldn't matter, we would react regardless of how many false alerts we encounter. In real life, humans become complacent to things we see on a regular basis. That is the one true advantage to the 9500ix. You will not ignore it because you have no reason to, it very rarely alerts to non LEO threats. QT is it's only weakness, albeit a deadly one if it's used in your area.
I still can't decide between the two and might send both back and wait for GOL results although I'm sure what the basic results probably are.
I have the V1 pretty darn quiet (for a V1), at least where I normally drive. See my signature for settings I use.
Your brain will tune into what's real and tune out what's false over time.
I agree when 9500ix goes off, it's a LEO. But that's the problem, I can often SEE the darn LEO about the same time the 9500ix does. Now if it didn't go off I may have not noticed, but they always seem awefully close when it goes off. I almost never get a long range alert with 9500ix, it does happen but it's rare. Where I already have with V1 a couple times.
They are both good detectors. It does make it easier for me because I'm keeping one 9500ix any way.
The V1 can be adjusted to false a lot less. X band has to be off, period. I don't know how anybody can use the v in an area where x band is used. Little or Big L is a must as well. I would prob even run with little l on the hwy most of the time esp if I was in a unknown area and had X band on.
I really like the voice alerts on the 9500 so I don't have to look to see what radar band it is, the auto mode where it doesn't go off at low speeds is great as well. It's just so much more advanced compared to the V. It really is like having a 2009 BMW and trying to go back to a 1981 rabbit.
Missing short burst of radar is the downfall of the convenience and features though.
Maybe I'll just keep both LOL, my wife would be highly pissed!
With Escorts you become complacent with silence as you roll through the dark on the interstate and 100 cops shoot you with Q/T the whole way and you get no alert. You don't have to ignore the Escort, it ignores real threats for you with TrueLock and its internal filtering that won't alert to short signals.
Too much information is better than ignorance with your hands over your eyes and ears.
I think folks are over reacting a bit to Q/T and autolearn. Yes they could be better but everything is a trade off. Might start getting more falses. Then Escort would lose their niche. I don't believe that many LEO's are that good at Q/T. I'm sure there may be some hot spots though.
Even though I think autolearn has issues I've never seen it lock out a LEO. But it may have I never noticed and realize it could.
Jazzy. True if QT is prevalent where you live there is no argument V1 for sure.
Yes and no to QT being overblown. Depends on where you live and where you use the RD the most, city or hwy.
I have a lot of detectors over the last 20 years and I have always become numb to the alerts because of false alerts. I even quit using a detector for the past couple years. I decided to try the 9500IX and so far I love it, not perfect but much better them getting false alerts all the time. I would have bough the V1 if I did a lot of highway travel or drove over the speed limit more often.
The thing I like about the 9500ix is it is very versatile its awesome in the city, and good on the highways. And you can run it in Highway mode the entire time and not have to cut the sensitivity in the city. It does have a problem with Q/T, which depending on your area is nonexistent, or used alot.
V1 is a great city detector if you use the K band automute, turn off X band, turn off the bogey lock tones, and mute the rear k band. Basically just turn the V1 off in the city. But it is the undisputed king of the highway, that's the reason I own one. The arrows are a nice feature and the sensitivity is great.
X2, mswlogo, rocky2& LucDogg. Though there is always inherent risks using any technology any logical person can make it work for them.
Its like i cant fathom why the V1 can mute a K band alert up to 30 seconds, by that time i would be busted. However if your attentive to it how it works, it works perfectly fine.
The biggest complaint i have about TrueLock nay Sayers is they make it sound like it locks out everything everywhere. its only a 1/10 to 1/2mi areaand not the whole US.
As far as the whole QT thing that is certainly on its way to being unacceptable but most of us are over reacting a bit to Q/T. Though its important to push the issue its used in all of maybe ~8 states and limited to some areas.
I agree, autolock is a good feature even if it's not perfect.
QT may be a bit overblown but still needs to be fixed.
Antone know how the 9500ci or Red Line fares against QT?
