Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
Hello, I am currently in the market for a laser jammer. I live in the DFW area and drive a Cayman. I currently own a valentine 1 and honestly don't usually speed a lot, the problem is that I would rather not pay a ticket for going 7 or 8mph over the speed limit. I bought the valentine 1 a while back but its software is still the latest according to the website and am completely satisfied with that purchase as it has saved me from Ka band like crazy and even got lucky once with a laser hit that i got, slowed down, and then watched the guy next to me get the ticket (kinda crappy but thats the way it goes i guess).
My actual question is, which laser system do you guy recommend for my car. The cayman is sort of a small car and quite honestly I was trying to see if I could get around purchasing the LI because of the price. I'm currently looking at owning the blinder M47 and putting 3 heads in the front, I cant remember which member had that setup or if it was on the Porsche forum, but I was hoping to get some advice from you guys. Thank you in advance for any suggestions/advice you may be willing to offer.
I was just asked what color the car was and since I don't have 5 posts i cant upload or view albums yet so i set it as a profile picture. I currently don't have a front license plate either, I was told when I took it in for some service at the Porsche dealership it wasn't required but they thought I should. I think if I get a laser jammer system then I'll go ahead and put it on since it would be one less reason to get pulled over.

If money is not an issue, get the best...

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
If you're being 100% honest, and only go 7-8 mph over the speed limit there is no need for a radar detector or jammers. One of the Texas cops on this site has said they don't site that low.
Having said that... if you have a V1 and a Cayman, I seriously doubt 7-8 mph is the issue you're concerned about. Trust me, I have vehicle which runs like a scalded dog and its hard to resist the temptation of the throttle. :D
The M47 should do very well on your vehicle. 2 heads up front, 2 in the back. My vehicle has a much bigger front end and 2 Blinder heads up front JTGs against 3 different lidar guns.
Speed-dreams, he sort of said price was a concern :) ----> "The cayman is sort of a small car and quite honestly I was trying to see if I could get around purchasing the LI because of the price. "
My philosophy is to spend as much as is needed to get the job done, but not to spend more than is needed, and I don't have a cheap vehicle by a long shot. :D

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
no offence, but geez you drive a Cayman... why cheap out on counter measures, plus you already have a V1? A good combo is V1+LI
-
Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
I think the other Caymen had 3 front LI and 1 rear LI and it was JTG/JFG.

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
Often you'll find that when some people afford nicer vehicles its because they've not been spend-thrifts elsewhere. :)

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
Hey guys, I really appreciate all the comments. I'm really glad to have found a forum with people that are as into this and even more than I am.
I don't have much time to respond now but I'll try to respond to all the comments/questions.
Chariot- I can honestly say that I agree with your philosophy of spending what is needed and not more, even though having a cayman is not the best use of money, but we all have our weaknesses :) Also, you're right, 7-8 mph is not the only extent of my speeding, especially on 121 or the tollway when I go to Dallas.
Speed-dreams--> Trust me if I had unlimited money, I would get the LI quad, but unfortunately thats a little too expensive for me right now, maybe later on another car. I bought the valentine close to 10 years ago, which is why i have it.
Dr. Coke--> yea I think thats the one I remember seeing. Didn't know it was LI, darn it..lol.
Question:
I keep reading that different states use different laser guns, do any of you guys know if the blinder M47 would suffice for texas, specifically the DFW area. One of the main reasons why I'm actually actively looking for this now is because I was driving down a street and they usually set up a speed trap, the speed limit there is either 30 or 35 and I'm usually 10 over. Also, I got a ticket in my previous car which was a 99 Accord and the cop was nice enough to let me know that he uses a laser gun and actually got be in what is a crack between two bridges, in case anyone is wondering, this is camp bowie and the bridge /overpass is highway I30.

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
The Blinder M47 will jam all US guns, including the hard to jam Stalker. Its light years ahead of the previous generation Blinders. I was stunned at its performance with my vehicle when we tested my vehicle locally against three different guns (ProLaser III, Stalker LZ-1, & Laser Atlanta).
Granted the LI are the best, I won't dispute that. But the Blinder will not only get the job done, it'll get it done with flying colors. If you have at least two of these factors then I'd recommend LIs or 3 Blinder heads up front: lots of front chrome, bright color paint, large front end (full size truck or suv), front tag.
PS.... know all about weaknesses to certain vehicles. I can say without a doubt that what I drive is fairly..... unique. :D

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
Our tests here in GA have shown the Blinder X7 series to be about 75-80% of the LI. The old X5 series was about 50% of the LI at best. You can see the jump they made with the new series.
On small to medium sized cars the Blinder will perform as well as the LI. The LI still has an advantage on larger vehicles. LI also gives you voice alerts to the type of gun being used.
On a Porsche I suspect the Blinder will be perform as well as the LI, but I have nothing definitive to back that up. Most cars in that price point opt for the LI, since you have more disposable income to begin with.
You have 2 options basically. Go with the M47, start with 2 heads in the front and test. Add a third head if needed. If not put the 2 heads on the rear. Or, you can get a LI dual and do front protection and add rear heads as money allows.

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
All the replies are spot on as ever.
I'll just add that the Blinders give great performance, but their achilles heal is the size of the heads.
It'd be sensible to find the head dimensions and cut out a piece of card and just check you have room front and rear for them (especially the rear).
That was one of the major reasons why I went with the LI when it came out and binned my Laser pro Park setup.
And whatever you go for, ask around here for someone with a Lidar gun to help you test your setup.

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
He's in DFW, so I know at least 10 member owned guns down there. Someone can help him out.
The Blinder heads are larger than the LI's, especially the LI rear slim heads.

not everyone ;)
For the OP, please come to one of our Laser jammer event, and decide from there...

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
Yeah, you'll find little sympathy here for Porsche drivers who haggle over two hundred dollars, which is less than the cost of one speeding ticket. Time to get real.
That said, from the results we have seen so far with the Mx7 series Blinders, I feel relatively confident that two heads would protect your front end completely. The great thing about the Cayman is the small headlights, which make off axis shots less of a risk.
On the rear, two Blinder heads should also do well, but only if you don't puss out on placement because you're too hung up on looks. Most Porsche drivers are. If you are, you'll need an LI to protect the rear.
We have another Cayman driver in Arlington who, as mentioned earlier, is JTG/JFG against everything with 3 LI heads. He would probably be happy to answer any installation specific questions for you.
I own every gun used in DFW, and will be happy to test your set-up out at your convenience.

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
Thanks a lot for the advice guys I really appreciate it. I'm just going to go ahead and decide. As for the placement and whether or not I will place them where they should go I don't think I'll get too caught up on that since if I did buy either one of those I'd be spending quite a bit of money. I appreciate the advice to get together with someone that has an actual gun to make sure I have appropriate placement. I think that would definitely be of great help.
I think I've got enough info as to what system would give appropriate coverage. Does anyone know where I could get them installed and the price for that? I have 2 guys that have done some hardcore electrical stuff for a friend of mine with the same car but have yet to contact them to ask what they'd be willing to do it for, I'd just like to have an idea ahead of time what I'm going to be looking to spend on that.

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
If you want to let someone install the system, I'd suggest that either you install the heads yourself in the exact location you want or you provide explicit instructions. The heads will need to be high enough, far enough apart, level, square to each other and point straight ahead. The shop that installed mine was clueless with installing the heads (down low and recessed). They did well on the interior components, but I redid the heads myself. Actually looking back, I should have done the whole thing.

Stealth.. I can't speak for Texas.. but here in MA.. it's the insurance surcharge that can increase your rates for multiple years that really hurts.. NOT the speeding ticket itself.
BTW. I'll offer my sympathy to anyone (no matter what car they drive) for a speeding ticket received in any amount of $$$.

Troy is in MA? I thought it was down by Waco. :dontknow:
But you're exactly right. It's the insurance sting that really hurts!

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
Actually a Carrera C4S not a Cayman but the frontal section is pretty close to the same.
Laser Jammer install for those interested - Rennlist Discussion Forums
Thanks SS for your testing a while back!
My latest install is on the new addition to the garage, a Cayenne Turbo S and that install should be complete in a couple of weeks. Going to do pretty much the same as the 997 except will use two heads up front and two in the back, LI of course. (Great support from Cliff at LI)
SS- would like to have you test when I'm finished.
Lunch, dinner, beer, whatever is one me.

Now that's funny. If you knew my situation, you'd understand why I am laughing extremely hard.... ask me privately and I'll be happy to fill in the details. ;)

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
Nice job on that install! I've been doing a lot of reading and looking at different diagrams and pictures and I'm thinking that I may try to install it myself, it really doesn't seem so bad. However, maybe i can call the guy and ask him if he can be on standby that day just in case...lol.

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
Definitely go for Laser Interceptor. It has been proven to be an impenetrable shield on your model of car.
If you are going for countermeasures you really want to be JTG/JFG otherwise you are wasting your time. JTG JFG is the only thing that would give me confidence to push it.
Also Laser Interceptor has the best customer service, and the smaller heads mean that it is easier to mount in a way that is inconspicuous. The larger Blinder and ZR4 heads are more visible. When I switched from ZR4 heads (smaller than blinder) to LIs, one of my friends asked me where my jammer had gone.

We could go as early as the end of March. I'll have the guns in Floridia until then. Seems like we have an older crowd in DFW than in Houston, so there's no need to wait for summer, like we're doing in Houston.

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
I was wondering, whenever you guys have one of these testing sessions, how does it usually work? Where do you generally meet up, how many members typically show up, how long does it last, etc ?
-
Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
Don't know about Texas, but it seems out here you get a private contact.... :)

Geographically, wherever is centrally convenient for the gun owners and those asking to be tested. Topographically, wherever we can find a nice long straight-away with no traffic and low chance of LEO activity. Locations are not announced publicly, are given out only just before the meet, and often changed. Alternate locations are kept in mind for last minute changes.
Quote:
how many members typically show up...
Anywhere from two to twenty. I do a lot of one-on-one private testing for local guys, but Houston meets average around fifteen guys. The more, the merrier. It's all about cost effectiveness, so one-on-one tests are nice, but less bang for the buck.
Quote:
how long does it last...
Anywhere from an hour to twelve hours. Sometimes we're done by lunch. Many times, we're still trying to get a few more runs in after dark.
We generally invite anyone interested, whether they need testing or not. These tests are excellent opportunities for those who are still shopping for a jammer to see things first hand before dropping a few Ben Franklins on something they are not sure about.
Typically, a handful of the members are among the most experienced hobbyists in the community, allowing for expert help and advice. And we usually have tools and supplies for installing and adjusting systems on hand, so that installs can be improved, or sometimes even done from the ground up, on site.
And of course, the better meets end with beer and crawfish served by waitresses in hot pants.

Re: Seeking advice on laser jamming system.
This is awesome! Sounds like I found one extra hobby to distract me from stuff I have to do, score!!!
