Beating Pacing is there a way.
More and More I noticed that if not all the CHP are using Pacing instead of using their Radar here in SoCal 405 Freeway.
Just the other night I was driving in the #3 lane just above the PSL of 65 and once I glanced over to my driver side mirror there is a CHP behind me and once I noticed him I just let go off the gas and he passed me. Later down about 5 miles down the road I saw him again this time pulling over a Pickup truck.
V1 did not go off! He is using a crown victoria with no radar/ antenna just plain cop car with lights on the roof.
Is there a way to beat pacing at all, I doubt it, coz these CHP will just pop up anywhere/ anytime you are not expecting them too. One thing you know if you are speeding chances are that there is a CHP behind you pulling you over.
I just keep looking at my Mirrors

I can think of two: your eyes and a CB radio.

Re: Beating Pacing is there a way.
^X2 Situational awareness is the only defense against pacing.

CB Radio? please enlighten me. Not all cars have CB and most of the trucks I see is mostly FedEx and Small trucks which I doubt have any CB on them.
Don't tell me the Police will actually broadcast there location. I wish. Make it easy for everybody.

We all forget from time to time but Defensive Driving 101 always look around you. LEO's are know to sneak up on you so if you are ready with a good RD and a great Jammer like the Blinder 27/47 you are almost covered. Don't forget GPS.

CB's can give you a 5 or 15 mile alert. Truckers on the CB can tell you what mile marker that they see an Officer. All I'm saying about the CB's it is another way of maybe catching an officer traveling on the highway with you.

Good Point.

Re: Beating Pacing is there a way.
Slam on your brakes and let him run in to the back of you. (There was a animal that ran out in front of you) :D I got paced in Dallas for 85 in a 65

Re: Beating Pacing is there a way.
Use your mirrors and check them frequently. When cops pace (if they are good it) they will use the terrain and especially lighting conditions to their advantage. When a traffic LEO spots their target to pace they will quickly accelerate toward you to get in position to match your speed for the pace. They will do this quickly, but if you spot them you can slow down before they get in position behind you to match your speed. It works for me.
Do not let your electronic gadgets give you a false sense of security. Remember to always scan ahead as far as possible with your eyes and take frequent quick looks behind you in the mirrors.

Re: Beating Pacing is there a way.
On all my road trips in the southeast 95%+ of all speed traps, whether stationary or moving cops, have been called out in advance by truckers on the CB. I make sure I return the favor and call out cops and DOT when I see them.

Re: Beating Pacing is there a way.
Ten Best Tips for Fearless Flying
Read Rule 4.
In particular, note this.
Quote:
The prime instrument for night driving is the rear-view mirror, and the prime rule is to drive fast enough so that all headlights of passed motorists reduce rapidly in size. Any pair of headlamps that maintains the same size or the same separation between the lamps calls for immediate deceleration pending positive identification.

Re: Beating Pacing is there a way.
Just because you have a good set of countermeasures does not mean you don't use your best countermeasure, your eyes!!!
If you are vigilant and take appropriate precautions (slowing before cresting a hill, rounding a curve, watching for brake lights ahead, etc) then most of your saves will be eye saves. You get a good countermeasure setup and you get complacent, next thing you know you have an invitation to the policeman's ball!!

^^ What he said. This is exactly what you need to do. Pay attention, situational awareness has made more saves for me than any RD or gadget I've owned.
Use your RDs, jammers, cb's etc as information gathering tools to IMPROVE your situational awareness, not instead of situational awareness.

This is nothing new. CHP have always heavily used pacing ... I'd guess pacing is neck and neck with radar at this point. Up until about 15 years ago, pacing was essentially their only way of doing speed enforcement ... and as we know from this forum, people are sometimes very resistant to change and/or scared of new technology. :p
I had assumed it was only the older CHP's who still used pacing, as they didn't even have radar when they joined up. However, my last ticket was pacing from an 18,000 badge number, so even the younger guys use it.
djrams80 has a video up where he got pulled over by pacing last week too.
Yes it's beatable (I won mine), but it's more difficult in general than radar.

Re: Beating Pacing is there a way.
Another no-no is to catch up to a cop who is doing the speed limit. :(

Really? This surprises me. I can't tell you how many times I've been on the freeway here locally and I catch up to (not pedal to the metal mind you) and/or passed a LEO who was going a few MPH under the limit while I was going the SL or 1-2mph above.

Re: Beating Pacing is there a way.
To paraphrase George Carlin:
Anybody driving slower than you is a moron. Anybody driving faster than you is a cop. ;)
Adjust your mirrors correctly - your side mirrors don't need to see the same picture you get in your rearview. Watch your rearview closely and frequently. After you've cleared visual obstacles like turns and hills, recheck it to see if anyone's sneaking up on you. Simple stuff like that...
-
Re: Beating Pacing is there a way.
Simple, if you go fast enough, the LEO can't keep up with you. Therefore, he can never pace you.

This is something I've noticed. When I drive 80+, I never see any police from behind. If I slow it down to 70-75 or below, they slooowly catch up and I have to slow down even more and act innocent until they pass...
Obviously flying around everywhere with no discretion will get you owned by other methods but it's something to consider. You don't have to "outrun" them; as long as you match the average speed they patrol at, they'll never catch up.
-
Re: Beating Pacing is there a way.
Just drive faster than their patrol cars' top speed and they'll never catch you.
Oh btw, I'd suggest getting one of those electric remote operated plate covers and a really good lawyer... have him on standby. ;)

Re: Beating Pacing is there a way.
I always thought it would be cool if someone hacked into the gps tracking system that is installed on some police cars. Then they could pull it up on their garmin and the cops showed up as red dots

When done right, it's unbeatable. ;) When proper procedures and training was used, it has a solid footing.

Re: Beating Pacing is there a way.
I am hearing more an more of people getting stopped by being paced especially if the officer is in an unmarked car. Many times they tailgate, either to force you to speed up or you doing something else stupid to get them off your back. My suggestion is to get on your hand free cell phone can dial 911 and say you have someone tailgating who will not pass you or leave you alone and when a mark car shows up you demand the officer who was trying to pace you get a ticket for tailgating or reckless driving since the police are required to follow the rules of the road.
