They still use sneaky tactics in VA. I get instant on up there too. Still have to be careful.

There are two ways to look at legality issue of RD's in VA. . Also, the lidar gun of choice for most VA localities in the Kustom Pro laser (which doesn't use a jam code).

Me personally, I like to live by the motto of "live free or die trying". I am more supportive of the attempt to overturn the RD ban in VA, but its hard to overlook the advantages of them being illegal. Unfortunaly its unlikely to be overturned, as the vote was overwhelmingly in favor of the ban. Of course, if the RD's are made legal here we will be more likely to see police tactics that are more in line with the rest of the country. There are two ways to look at this issue, and neither side is the wrong.

My friend, there is no better feeling than to know that YOU'RE A FREE MAN (OR GIRL)

I wonder if the people (RD users of course) of Connecticut (the last in the nation to have the RD ban overturned) regret having their RDs made finally legal  Also, I would like to see a general poll with a question like this one Would you prefer to have the RDs banned in your state, police to use RDDs, in return cops will use only constant-on, yes or no  ... maybe our GREAT Leader Mr. StealthJamal is really in majority on this one

Default I have a radar detector

I live in NOVA, northern va, and I just bought a V1 and I haven't gotten to use it yet, but I really want to know if there is any sor of RDD protection for it and will the "protection" effect the way my V1 works. I have a concealed display and the unit itself I am getting hardwired tomorrow or by the lastest Thursday. Does anyone have tips for me??? I live in Lovettsville so I mean that is about only 4 miles away from the VA and MD state border and I don't see many VA cops out here, there is a State Cop who lives near me though, but I hate being in Fairfax County they are the biggest assholes because they have so much money!!!

Search the bord some and you will find a lot of info. To sum it up for you: The Spectre is the only RDD that can detect the V1 and currently it is not used in VA. Although we suspect it's possible use in La Crosse Virginia but we haven't confirmed that yet.

Fairfax County Police use mostly laser and pacing so a radar detector will only provided very limited protection from the FCPD speed enforcement.

I'll lay bets right now that sometime in the next 3 years there will be Spectres in Virginia. And if I lived in that state there is no way I would drive with any RD but an STi.

If you have an X50 sell it on E-bay and rest your nerves with an STi.

That's a good idea. Or you can switch to the STi for the reason that I did, it detects radar (especially Ka) better than the X50 and RX65.

Should VA get Spectre's, the V1 or STi are by far your best choices. The STi will give you a greater sense of security as it is undetectable but the V1 was detectable to the Spectre at a mere distance of 166ft. Before you get that close to the LEO, you would most likely have had plenty of time to turn off your RD.

Btw, the Spectre cannot detect an RD that is turned off.

Spectre does detect the V1 from greater distances from the rear. When I tested at GOL back in 05 the V1 was detected at 338 feet when aiming at the rear of the car and only 98 feet from the front.

STi is the only way to go for complete immunity from Spectre.
