Default Do the lo emissions affect detection

After my mates detector interfered with my neighbours sat, i emailed snooper and they said that it needs recalibrating.

So tonight i told him and he wasnt bothered, he said that aslong as it detects k band gatsos, its ok.

So because the emissions are off, and needs re tuning will this affect radar detection, or will it just keep interfering with sats with no performance loss..

i think it will because its tuned to the frequency in the factory, so if the lo frequency moves then the itermediate frequency will be different than when it was set in factory.... obviously this is a guess so am i right??

As I have never tested an S5R I cant tell you for certain if the S5R tuning frequency does not interfere with the satellite link.

As for it needing to be recalibrated, this may just be a feel good response from Snooper.

If tuning was off, I would expect that the unit receiving windows to be shifted but the sensitivity should be unchanged toward any frequency that the unit will still receive.

    Ah...

It may be thatbg tech are still setting the lo at the sat frequencies, or have bad factory set up.

When an rd goes out of tune what happens to the lo for it to make the rd stop detecting?

Once again cheers for the info, i'm fasinated by your technical knowledge

I just wish i knew more myself about electronics, then i could fix things when they break..

A radar detector does not typically go "out of tune".

However things happen and it is possible for the unit 1st LO frequencies to shift out of the specifications for the tuning windows.

There is generally a guardband of +/- 25Mhz at the fundamental 1st LO frequency plan built into these units and as such it can withstand minor changes due to aging and temperature.

Any shift more than this can result in the unit not responding to the radar as the receiving window may no longer be valid for that band.

    Well that answers that.....

    cheers...
